Apple Tells Reseller New Mac Pro Is Arriving in Spring 2013

French Apple Reseller France Systems sent out a newsletter to its customers on the news that Apple will be halting sales of the Mac Pro on March 1st, 2013 due to new EU regulatory requirements.

As noted by both Mac4Ever and MacGeneration, the reseller also reports in that newsletter that they have heard from Apple that a new Mac Pro will be arriving in Spring of 2013. Translation:
Quote:
However, we believe that the judgment of the Mac Pro is temporary, Apple informs us that new Mac Pro will be released in spring 2013.
While Apple typically doesn't leak such information, even to resellers, they have been strangely candid about a 2013 Mac Pro revision. In June, after a disappointing revision to the Mac Pro, an Apple spokesperson confirmed that Apple was working on a new Mac Pro for release in 2013.

Update: Apple declined to comment to Ars Technica about the reseller's claims, merely pointing back to earlier comments by Tim Cook about a new Mac Pro coming "later" in 2013.

Will it be a complete refresh or just a new chipset? Only time will tell.

I hope so, but apple has long ignored the MP, to the degree that I'll not be surprised if they just plop a new chipset into the logic board and slap sticker on it saying new and improved.

I love the design of the MP, its clean wonderfully laid out, but its been that way since the G5. I think they can possibly shrink the enclosure down without too much sacrifice in space.

Actually the case design is celebrating its 10th anniversary.

The only thing close to the G5 is the exterior. The interior was completely relaid out with intel, and has been relaid out in many ways on later intel iterations. Fans, ram, power, etc. all changed over time with the intel.

I am guessing it will be like the Final Cut redesign. Or any recent "pro" redesign.

Consumerized. With even more locked downiness!

For the pro... in all of us

Joking aside, I'd bet Apple goes to the other extreme... a super open, well configurable, stunningly powerful machine but massively expensive. It will be the machine that separates the prosumers from the pros. Quad core goes away except for the server & entire regular line is 12 core+ starting at $3900.

It'll be interesting to see if they want to move units and be competitive (ok, LOL!), or simply mark up their cpu upgrades to a crazy degree like they always have.

They'll take the previous generation iMac chassis, and stick a xeon in it, upgrade the max ram capacity to 96gb and call it a day.

I personally hope all new. I like the current Mac Pro design but it's time for something all new.

When is "Spring" anyways?

EDIT: Thanks everyone for replying with specific dates, times, and the occasional lesson in different Springs across the globe.

The Mac Pro has become the b***ard child of Apple. They stopped caring a long time ago.

Then why are they bothering. If they stopped caring they should just cut the Mac Pro and out that team in what they do care about -- the sales making iDevices

Just a a guess!
That is my guess. And hopefully there will be a larger size option and HDMI inputs. Cause I don't always need a second display and it would be great to part time it as an Apple TV monitor

Will it really hurt replacing the "spring" word with a month name? Or maybe you can say 2 times spring and 1 time march. (try googling for spring)

Thanks!

Now, I need some coffee
