Apple Seeds First Beta of iOS 6.1.1 to Developers

A little over a week after the public release of iOS 6.1, Apple today seeded the first beta version of iOS 6.1.1 to developers. The beta arrives as build 10B311.

The new version also arrives just two days after the Evasi0n jailbreak for iOS 6.x devices went live, although it is so far unknown if iOS 6.1.1 patches any of the bugs exploited by the software.

Update: 9toMac has release notes listing major improvements to Maps for Japanese users.
Quote:
iOS 6.1.1 beta 1 includes the following improvements to Maps for Japan:

- Improved pronunciation of roads during turn-by-turn navigation
- Optimized directions to more strongly prefer highways over narrower roads
- Now indicates upcoming toll roads during turn-by-turn navigation
- Added labels for junctions, interchanges, on-ramps, off-ramps, and intersections
- Added indicators for transit station buildings, subway lines, and traffic lights
- Updated freeway color to green
- Updated icons for some location categories including fire stations, hospitals, and post offices Added 3D buildings including Tokyo Station, Japan Imperial Palace, and Tokyo Tower

I wish updates happened more rapidly. They don't have to big, but little changes here and there every so often doesn't hurt.

Or they saved a bunch of map fixes to entice people to upgrade and lose JB ability. Cynical... I know.

And I certainly hope you're joking. Why would anyone genuinely want Apple to "plug" the JB "hole"?

Well I was joking but truthfully I don't jailbreak my iPhone so I couldn't care less if they did. Also I'm reading a lot that people do illegit things with their iPhones under JB such as downloading stolen software.

Ok cool. Yeah, that's one thing I DON'T do. Is download software illegally. As far as I know though, that has been stemmed a bit, but I'm not exactly sure.

That's probably what it's meant for, bundled with some other small improvements.

The big question, does this patch Evasi0n's exploits?

I'd think the turnaround time from exploit release to patch is rather small, at least with this release. However beta 2 or 3 would get the patch maybe?

That's not the joke. People like who you get upset over it are.
I also want Safari to be snappier.

When you jailbreak, it installs some stuff like MobileSubstrate and MySQL. I'm not sure if that impacts the performance, but I kept feeling like my iPhone was just a tad slower after the jailbreak even without anything from Cydia installed.

Why the doubt? Is apple so incompetent in your eyes?

Actually now that evasion is released it is very easy for Apply to look at how it exploits iOS. Sure, the team may have other exploits waiting in the wings, but everything used in this release is now known to Apple.
Also, it's not about Jailbreaking, so much as it is plugging a known security hole that is actively being exploited. Leaving this un-patched would offer a significant vulnerability that could be used maliciously. These vulnerabilities are serious and that is why most exploits used to JB a phone have been patchable via Cydia even before Apple officially releases an update.

Its a minor release. All it should have is bug fixes.

Please read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_versioning so you don't sound uneducated next time.

I got my game changing features when I jailbroke my iPhone. People are missing out on so much when they don't jailbreak.

If you want your Safari to be snappier get the tweak SafariDNS from Cydia and actually change your DNS to Googles public 8.8.8.8 DNS. It does actually make it snappier.

Why would a 6.1.x maintenance release have anything to do with the next OS release?

Also to those in the thread, not sure what on earth you are expecting from a maintenance release. Complete UI overhaul I suppose.

I'm sure I will see the same people on here complaining when 6.1.2 comes out because you're still butt hurt about iOS 6 for some reason and just want to whine
