Photos of iPhone 5 Clone Circulating as Alleged 'iPhone 5S'

Last week, a forum user at Chinese site sjbbs.zol.com.cn posted several photos (via The Times of India) of what was alleged to be the iPhone 5S in production. Despite the fact that the device is clearly an iPhone 5 clone, the photos have been widely circulating today.

The photos show a device with an outward appearance very similar to the iPhone 5, but the internals show essentially no resemblance to an Apple-designed device. Examples of just a few of the inconsistencies include:

- A battery capacity of just 1130 mAh compared to 1440 mAh for the iPhone 5
- An apparent SD card slot
- Loose red and black wires connecting components
- A green PCB for the connector bearing no resemblance to Apple's Lightning connector

Apple has been reported to be moving forward on an iPhone 5S model that will unsurprisingly appear very similar to the iPhone 5, although the iPhone 5S is said to feature upgrades to the rear camera. Other improvements such as upgraded internals are also certain to make their way into the new model. Reports have suggested that the device could launch as soon as June or July of this year.

Steve Hemmerstoffer of French site Nowhereelse.fr tweeted a photo three days ago showing some of the obviously fake characteristics of the device:

I refuse to believe Apple will release a device with such a small digital display, and an extending measuring rod, as their next iteration of the iPhone.

I think you missed the point.

The new iPhone is a magical 0.00 mm in height.

It's called a digital caliper. But I'm sure Apple will say they re-invented it and call it iCaliper. It's revolutionary! Changes the way we measure sheet metal thickness

"This is not an iPhone vibrator..."

Does anyone here have a picture of a real iPhone vibrator? Something to compare to this picture of the fake phone to?

Iphone 5s will be the first upgrade Ill have missed. Eventually you have to ask yourself if it is real value for money upgrading every time. Dont think it is anymore. They're all so good now and cameras also that improvement are negligible and the upgrades are not cheap.

I have seen this story on plenty of sites talking about how this is definitely the new iPhone 5s. I don't know why I read anything other than items posted on Macrumors.

I hear what you're saying and I think most people could agree, my iPhone 5 cellular telephone / pocket computer does more than what I need day-to-day, so why get the next iteration? I think keeping up with the ever expanding OS itself would be a valid reason to upgrade to new hardware, but the latest version of iOS runs pretty great on the 4S, as well.

I have to take issue with the upgrades "not being cheap", though. My usage stats show that my iPhone is typically in my hand doing something for about 7 hours a day, and that's 365 days a year. That's over 200 hours a month!

For a device that you actively make use of nearly 50% of your waking hours, and that sits reliably on standby the rest of the time, how is the net cost to upgrade not "cheap," or at least an amazing value? Who among us wouldn't "rent" the latest iPhone for only $8/month, the same as Netflix? Because that's about what I have paid out of pocket to own every new version of the iPhone since the 3GS in 2009.

This,^^ it use to be that when an upgrade was available you knew you were going to get something substantial because their was a lot of new tech ground to cover, now phone tech has caught up and hit the ceiling. Everything now is speed bumps useless gimmicks in the real world.

I don't think you understand... If you had an SD card slot, it would take up room that would probably have been used for more features or a larger SSD. SD card slots waste quite a bit of room. Highly inefficient.

Myth! Now i know that there is many that would find it useful! But so many others would not even care or would not even notice it's there. Like most of my friends using Android Phones with memory card slot, they never bothered to buy a card for it. They say internal memory is good enough for what they have/need to store.

As if the current battery isn't cra p y enough.. That would be the worst battery ever in a smartphone. I was hoping to see 2000-2200 sized battery in there. Instead of enlarging battery for longer usage time they shorten it, WTF??
