On yesterday's Security Now! podcast, Leo LaPorte noted that he and his company's President are going to spend all day Friday in meetings with lawyers. He hasn't said any details online, but this is almost certainly about a direct or anticipated attack by the podcast patent trolls (eff.org article link).

IMO, Apple has benefitted hugely from the proliferation of high-quality podcasts from organizations like the TWiT network, 5by5, and the 70decibels network. These companies help sell hardware: they create content for Apple's computers and mobile devices. They also help create community. Patent trolls could suck the life out of these businesses.

Should Apple take an active role in helping to eliminate this patent troll threat?
