Zoom in in Mavericks

Since I use the trackpad, I can't help you with zooming.

But for scrolling direction..System Preferences > Trackpad > Scroll And Zoom > Scroll Direction (check for "natural"...uncheck for the other way!). That pane may help with Zooming, too.

I never could get used to "Natural"...I have it unchecked.
