im trying to learn C on my own. for writing the code, should i creat a file or a project? then how can i compile and run it?

In XCode, go to File > New Project. Then scroll down to Command Line Utility, then under that, Standard Tool.

I like to keep all my project under my XCode directory. So, for the Project Name, I pick dec2ascii or some such name, then for the Project Directory, I'll pick ~/XCode/dec2ascii/.

Works for me.
