iPhone apps installed but wont work

I have gotten the iPhone apps to show up on my spring board and have changed all the octals to 0755 but when i try and open the apps, they open and crash.

whats happening ? I really want maps and mail

I have, and ya I found somethin similar but the solutions were to change the octal -- which I did, and somethin else which I cant remeber. Problem is, I found the second one by accident, closed it, and could re-find it, by postin this I was hopin somebody would point me in the direction of the thread.
