App to mute certain apps.

I was wondering if there was any way to mute certain apps. In windows Vista there is a way of doing this it's built right into the OS. I know this is one of the very few things that vista actually does right. So is there an app out there that can accomplish this or any way that automator or something can do this in the OS.
