i have a 2006 20 inch intel mac just collecting dust, wanting to install 10.6 server, have the discs. when trying to boot ( option) nothing happens, tried with usb , still nothing, when i put in my 10.6 OS usb in, it picks it up right away.

its intel, so it should work, has 4 gb and a 250 hd.

help please!

Bad optical drive?

Try taking an image of the 10.6 Server DVD and restoring it to a USB or Firewire drive.

Yeah, I agree that that looks like a bad optical drive. I have seen 10.6 Server installed on a variety of 20" iMacs at my college (They like the look of em I think, although they really should have an XServe IMHO), so it definitely can be made to work.
