just thought people might like to know that as someone who got their iphone 4 preorder in at about 6 30 pdt from Apple, I went back later that day and changed my shipping address to one different from my billing. I called Apple today to figure out if that is an issue and while at first the lady said this might invalidate my order, since my payment was already authorized through the change didn't matter and I will indeed have my iphone on June 24th, at an address that is not my billing address.

you just logged in and changed it and that was it? if i do that too will there be an issue or is it best to call?

This is conflicting information, since there is another thread that says that Apple will hold your order if the shipping information does not match.

Yea, I'll bet it will foul up the works. It doesn't seem to take much to throw them for a loop.

I just logged in to check my order status, and you are still able to change your shipping address. I hope that they don't do another check before it ships.

I just talked to Charlie at Apple. She changed my shipping address to my work, and she said it is totally fine. It won't hold up any orders.

I pretended I was going to by an iPad, and it started blinking then.

But the people on chat told a whole different story. I'd try to call Apple if I were you.

alright well I talked to someone on the phone and the woman said it was perfectly fine to change the shipping address...although she didn't exactly sound like the brightest person so I have no clue what to believe anymore. Only thing she said was that the credit card billing address had to match the AT&T billing address..

changed mine. so we'll see what happens. at worst will have to track some stuff down with fedex.

depends on your order time

The key factor that i believe decides whether its ok to change your address is if you ordered it and let enough time pass until your payment is authorized so that when they have checked your credit card the billing is the same as the shipping. You're all right that it might seem risky, but sounds like the reps on the phone say its ok. my reasons are that i dont live at my billing address right now and if i couldn't ship it somewhere else i would be delayed in my receipt of the phone by a couple of weeks anyway so its worth the gamble for me.

wait until it ships

I talked to two different people on apple chat, the first guy was useless, but the second gave me a link. He said follow the link, then follow the directions and change your shipping address after the iPhone has shipped. It will still arrive on launch day and you wont risk at&t canceling your order right before it ships.

That's great, but AT&T aren't shipping the phone. Apple is. AT&T don't have anything to do with shipment, so they can't "cancel" your order.

So who took the chance and changed their shipping info in the Apple order status section? Who didn't?

When did you change it? Has your credit card been charged or have a hold on it?

I order at Tuesday at 9AM CST got it processes, got a confirmation email at 6:15PM. I changed the shipping address before getting the confirmation email and the confirmation email has the changed shipping address.

Not charge to my card yet though. Think it's safe to assume I'm still on track for a 6/24 delivery?

Interesting link. Thanks for posting. I'm not changing anything at this point. I'm just gonna pre-sign and ask them to deliver to my leasing office. Nice treat for when I get home from work.

thats what I thought at first, but the first guy I talked to at apple said that AT&T will "check to see if you have violated the shipping/billing agreement set forth by AT&T and go ahead with your order or cancel it." of course he could have been spitting out garbage for all I know. Everywhere you go someone tells you different.

Changed this afternoon, got another $1.00 transaction on my CC. Estimated shipping has not changed.

Charlie at Apple said that was absurd. They have absolutely nothing to do with shipping. Who knows??

So, what was t resolution to this last year, guys? I have the same problem this year...ordered the iPhone 4S and it's going to an old address!
