iPhone 4, can NOT Upload 720p Videos to youtube direct from phone! What a Shame

When sharing your finished iMovie video, the Camera Roll compresses the video to 568x320 in order to improve upload performance. The full-resolution version of your video remains in the Camera Roll, and you can transfer this version back to your computer when you connect your iPhone.

iMovie doesnt allow it

Once again, apple is missing features that SHOULD be here.

Do you know how long it would take to send a 720p HD Video over 3G???? Let alone what it would do to your battery and Data.

And even if on Wi-fi its gonna take a while which again is not practical when you on the go because you could be going in and out of coverage.

and if your at home, well just use your computer over a decent connection.
 
So enable it on WIFI only.

I can understand the bandwidth issues on 3g.

Its a phone, you won't upload a 30min or 1hr clip. So at least over WiFi it should work! :mad:

If i have a 30 min video i wouldn't use the phone to upload it. But everything below 10 minutes via WiFi should be feasible! :apple:
 
yeah, I don't see why not on wifi. Were talking wireless n here, its gonna be comparable to upload speeds on a computer. And iphone now also has multitasking so you can do other things while uploading can you not?
 
Jesus Christ Mac users have such a sense of entitlement. Will find ANYTHING to complain about. Uploading 720p video from a CELL PHONE is just impractical and would take forever. Transfer it to your computer and upload it that way.

If your going to complain, complain about something that is actually relevant such as the antenna issue.

Its 2010, the HTC evo 4g, can upload to youtube in 720p to youtube. This feature just needs to be enabled and APPLE should do it.
 
I put up the 3G iOS4 reception issue video yesterday. It's 39 seconds long and it took 5 min to load it to YouTube from my computer. The video was 720p.

As silly as it is, I wish they'd allow it over wifi.
 
You can, in fact, upload to YouTube in HD. You have to use iMovie, the Photos app won't allow you to upload in HD. I know, iMovie is $4.99. Just spend the money if you want 720p uploading to YouTube, after all, what's 5 bucks after you just spent at least $200 on your new phone ;)
 
I have to admit, I was a little disappointed by this one as well.

It's not the end of the world...it's 1 little thing on an otherwise amazing phone. So I'm not really complaining, exactly.

I'm just saying, I was surprised to learn this as well.

It's a bit galling that Apple have deliberately crippled this unless you give them *even more* money. It's really taking the piss to the extreme.

Why does it surprise you that Apple is making a grab at extra cash? They've been doing that all along, though many have been blinded by the shiny "Appleness" of their hardware.

Think about it. Apple has been selling us the same hardware available in PC's at a higher price (sometimes significantly higher) than a similarly equipped PC, all under the guise of a "premium computer". And we're willing to shell out the cash. So why complain now about an extra 5 bucks?

This is a pretty big disappointment. I'm fine with waiting for long uploads, it's my data plan, it's my phone, let me do it!

I need to take short videos, and upload them on the fly. This works perfectly... except they are not high def!

I'm using this to share group experiences semi-live (delay is only as long as it takes to upload and for youtube to process).

Grrrr.

iMovie is WELL worth the measly $5. Any iPhone4 without iMovie is a waste of hardware. Spring for the app and fully enjoy your phone.

According to the OP, even iMovie doesn't let you upload 720p video to youtube.

Are you absolutely sure it does? If so, this is a non issue, iMovie is well worth the price if you plan to use the video camera at all.

But if it doesn't, apple needs to fix this.
 
iMovie does NOT mange the uploads to youtube.

the built in camera/photo roll does.

imovie is a waste of money unless you want to edit your videos. Plus it has themes you can add to your videos.
 
Apple baby steps. I'm already saving up for iPhone 5 and its "one more thing".. uploading raw video because now they've figured out how to do it right.

Somebody here is lying.

So there's conflicting reports whether it can actually upload 720p to YouTube, with or without iMovie. So which is it?
 
You can only upload 720p from a desktop. From the phone directly you can't. Even w IMovie it's a no go :(
