Long story short, I recorded a movie in iMovie, somehow something got corrupted (I'm not sure what happened) and now I'm left with a 200mb .mov file. I know there's something there, even though it's corrupted and I can't open it.

I've tried every method possible and was wondering if anyone knows of ANY software that can repair .mov files? I can't convert the .mov to .avi and repair the .avi, because the .mov isn't recognized, so that's out of the question.

If anyone knows of anything short of mailing it to a data recovery company to try to repair as a last resort, please let me know.

Thanks in advance!

I had a .mov that would not play with sound. I used iSquint to convert it to .mp4 and it worked great. Maybe you could try converting it to a different format?

I hope this doesn't get lost in rapidshare and get it's own website or something.

cycorder app doesn't work. I have a 910mb mov file that I need to repair but it just generates a 1mb mov that won't play.

Going by the number of broken movs any camera e.g. canon 7D, panasonic GH1 etc gives off, please surely there must be an app for repairing them?

Ok, I had issues with it as well, as I am not very good with terminal.

1. Put all the files from the download on your desktop
2. Put your movie on the desktop
3. Open Terminal
4. type: cd desktop
(you have to be in the folder, so terminal knows it can access the files here, otherwise you will get an error that says it cant find "moov template")
5. type or paste: ./repair_cycorder_mov.py yourmoviesname.mov working.mov

It works. It have read that it only works with cycorder corrupted movies though, but you might give it a try and report back here.

Thanks

This tool can repair corrupt .mov files:

http://grauonline.de/cmsimple2_6/en/?Solutions:HD_Video_Repair_Utility

It scans the corrupt movie and extracts video and audio streams, and saves them into a new .mov file. Additonally, the .mov can be reencoded - this fixes encoding problems too. Good luck!

Sorry for reviving old thread but I want to say this tool repaired my corrupted iPhone video. Very expensive tool though so I didn't purchase it. I mailed the developer asking him to make the price more reasonable and make it available on the MAS.

Besides that "cycorder tool" you could try to diagnose the file using MP4repair.org to get an idea about the chances to get your file repaired. It's free and is worth to try.

My Canon 7D corrupted an important 5 minute (2GB) video file I needed for work (battery was running out).
I tried File Juicer - got a bunch of garbage txt files, no mov
gs worked great. I had to change my security settings to run the program and it costs a lot even for the 5 run license (hopefully 5 is more than I'll ever need).
I was able to test it with the demo version then purchased it.

Thanks for the post!!

Can anyone help?

Hi all, another revival here, I'm hoping someone can help me, I'm still having problems.

I recorded with iSight but the battery died before I'd finished (I'm still in mourning). The corrupted file is about 650MB

Tried VLC, VisualHub, iSquirt, everything I can think of, with no luck.

I managed to extract some JPGs with File Juicer - but less than 5% of the images came through juicy clean. The rest were damaged or incomplete - past their use by date, left in the sun too long, I dunno.

Tried xylor's repair script, but it just spat out a small .mov file that wasn't recognisable.

Finally had some luck with Video Repair Utility - but the repaired video came out all staggered and blocky - it plays one frame every 1.5s. Perhaps it has something to do with the way I originally recorded it (I used iMovie timelapse to record 1 in 20 frames). But...

The reference movie was recorded in the same way (i.e. 1 in 20 frames) - so the resource forky thing should, if I'm reading into this correctly, translate across okay (right?). But instead of a nice smooth video, I'm getting 1 frame every few seconds, each spanning roughly ~30 seconds of footage. It's like it's missing the other 19 frames :(

It's all rather confusing, but I feel like I'm so close! There's no sound in the video, if that helps. I read that it makes it easier to repair. What do I do short of resorting to specialists? I've got hexedit and am willing to play around in that, but I'm not sure what to do. Can someone please help?

Thanks for the post!!

iMovie

It was a movie shot using canon camera, and somehow I couldn't open it using quicktime,
Tried VLC and it worked, then I used iMovie to import and then exported to another mov.
worked fine.. :)
