I've had this imac for more than 3 years now, and it worked perfectly all throughout the warranty period(no really...i didn't use AppleCare once). Recently though, ive seen these problems come up:
- Screen goes black, grey, white, something monochrome
- Screen freezes up, with the mouse still active, but nothing functioning
- Screen suddenly shows checkered colored patterns
This happens around 3 times a day, until i get tired of it and work on my PC(dont worry, its not a preference). Other things I've done: TechTool Deluxe(comes clean for VRAM), ATH(also clean), looked through forums extensively... For the last two days, ive tried using a different account and the problem didn't occur...until 5 minutes ago.

You guys have any idea?

I'd agree with HellHammer, it sounds like the problem is with the GPU.

Definitely try PRAM & SMC resets first. Another thing I'd suggest, if you have access to another computer with Firewire, is to boot up the problematic iMac in FireWire Target Disk Mode. This will give you a chance to back things up and to test to see if there are any major issues with the iMac Hard Drive isolated from the graphics card.

What kind of graphics card do you have?
