New 'iPad 2' Image Almost Certainly Fake

Earlier today, BGR posted an image it had received from a source claiming that it was a rear view of the second-generation iPad. The image has of course received a fair bit of traction on Apple-focused sites this morning, but it is almost certainly fake.

MacRumors received the same image this morning, with the source claiming that he or she had "hacked Apple.com servers" to find it and that additional images will follow in three days. While the image is a decent mockup and is consistent with most of the rumored details for the new device, the lack of a visible power button, questionable sourcing, and other evidence indicate that it is indeed fake.

Also, speaker grid does not appear to follow the "curved" bottom of the iPad (holes are same distance apart), and the sides of the power slot would be elliptical, as they are on an angular surface, while these appear rounded.

Haha!!! Sure! "additional images will follow in 3 days"?!?!
How more idiotic can this person get??
First they hacked Apple.com---sure, okay!
And then they will send more images in 3 days when the apple media event is on Wednesday, in 2 or 3 days!

Haha. This person is a complete joke! Sorry, but come on, get real!

The "reflection" doesn't have a speaker grille.

reflections never have speaker grill(e)s. They, after all, are reflections.

The volume buttons are the wrong side, plus I believe Apple will switch to the two separate up/down buttons like the iPhone 4/new iPod touch.

Their also no power button or headphone jack.

Sloppy work done by an amature. I had no idea apple.com was so easily hackable.

Did someone notice that the upper 60% of the screen has a different color to the lower 40% of the screen?

This HAS to be fake

I could see this design for the first generation, but not the second.

Fake.

Have we not yet learned that BGR contributes nothing, and that they intentionally spread false information as click bait during times of increased interest? Personally I find Macrumors irresponsible for even covering the lies BGR puts out, or even mentioning their name. They should be buried.

The iPad 2 could very well look like that. Or, it could look nothing like that at all.

Who cares. We'll know the real and only story on Wednesday.

Terrible mock up! Hate the speaker grill and squareness! On a related subject, I really hope Apple don't use the same rear form as the current iPod Touch. I think the curved back of the current iPad is really nice to hold. Alternatively, a form similar to the iPhone 4 would be pretty nice too, imagine how futuristic it would look....though i doubt it will happen,,,you never know! Roll on Wednesday!

What the...? Why did they increase the bezel so much and then reduce the display and make it shaped like an apple? I am sooo tired of Apple...all they care about is self-promotion! I am going out right now to buy a Kindle!
