I give my business to the local economy; I love Apple, but I want to make sure my dollars stay in my city :)

That's a good question, however; what's everyone's iTunes-purchased song count?

I have two iTunes servers. I used to have everything on Server #1, but my wife and I got tired of weeding through back episodes of SpongeBob and Power Rangers, so I moved my kid's stuff over to a old MacMini.

These both stream to three ATV2s.

Server #1 - PM G5 2x2Ghz. 4x1TB RAID array.

Music - 31858 tracks, 85.7 days, 690.67 GB (Almost all ripped direct from CD to Apple Lossless)
Movies - 277 items, 8 days, 138.03 GB
TV Shows - 2567 Episodes, 43.7 days, 836.73 GB (All ripped direct from DVD)
Podcasts - 1178 items, 17.8 days, 23.50 GB

Server #2 - MacMini 1.13Ghz, External 1TB HD

Music - 0
Movies - 4 items, 6 house, 4.92 GB
TV Shows - 1598 TV Episodes, 20.7 days, 437.78 GB (All ripped direct from DVD)

I add this up to 2.13 Tb if you got with 1000 math or right around 2 TB even with 1024 math. (Google it if you want to know more.)

24 GB of music and 7 GB of Movies. I don't much more room because my HD is pretty small but I'll be upgrading an iMac so I'm sure my library will exponentially expand

ITunes library eating my hard drives

I have around 1.5Tb of data. I store it on two 2Tb drives but am running out of space.

Anyone have a good tip of moving to a NAS from a set of external drives?

I've started to rip my blu-rays but some of them are over 50Gb a pop so have filled most of another 2Tb with them.

Add a 1Tb Time Machine of my Mac and I'm running at 7Tb+.

(any tips for justifying the NAS to my wife would also be appreciated, I've tried explaining how we're safe-guarding our digital collateral for the future but she doesn't seem to rate the Alien boxset or Dave and Tim in glorious 1080p the same way I do).....

Thanks

jake

I have about 750GB of HD movies (probably around a a hundred movies in total). and another 120GB of HD TV shows. I'm not sure why really, don't think I've watched any of it twice :/

Are you guys using a certain program to rip your dvd's right into iTunes? I'm still new to the osx scene so I am trying to figure this all out.

Handbreak is your friend :D (use it with cputhrottle to avoid frying your CPU though if your going to be running it for days on end)

I got to chime in.

Decided to standardise on ATV 2s around the house.

Meant massive re-encode/re-rip of DVDs.

Three/four months into the project still got months to go......

arrghhhh it seemed such a cool idea........ must carry on,

So here is where I am now:-

63k Songs
1,400 Movies
7k TV episodes

I have a few thousand audiobooks to do when I get around to it

All I can say is iFlicks and Handbrake are your best friends........... iFlick particularly

Also, good use of arRsync to maintain nightly backups.

Started with a 4x1TB Thecus NAS, added three USB 4x2TB DAS boxes just added a 4x2TB Drobo on firewire800.

Drobo is the way to go....

probably got another 2k odd TV episodes and another 1,000 odd DVDs to rip.

Oh for ripping I bought a slack handful of external USB DVD drives and queue up Handbrake to keep it busy for a few hours.

Kept two new(ish) iMacs and a new MBP very busy 7x24 for months, kept the office nicely warm through winter.

I think the title of the thread should be "show us your cd collection" so we can separate the men from the frauds.

How do some of you guys have that much in your itunes collection. I thought I had a decent amount with 75 gigs worth of movies and 30 gigs of tv shows.

Some with 1tb in movie files? Was it handbraking your entire movie collection of 300+ movies to be able to have that?

my current iTunes library consists of the following:

- 105.94GB music (24,537 songs, all imported from CD to a -q8 FLAC-encoded lossless archive, and then encoded to -q77 True VBR QuickTime AAC, average bitrate ~142kbps),
- 635.88GB movies/videos/TV shows (1225 total, all encoded with default Handbrake constant quality settings), and
- close to 1GB of podcasts (mostly audio)

and all of this fits comfortably on the 2TB WD external HDD I bought last summer :).

I am re-ripping my entire DVD collection using Handbrake.

I am capturing AC3 and a Stereo audio track plus any audio commentaries an sub titles, plus all the DVD extras over 4 minutes long.

I maintain a catalog of the DVDs in DVDPedia and that is exported to my iPhone, whenever I am in a store that sells DVDs I purchase any DVD, as long as it is worth getting and I don't already have it, that is £3 or less. I also purchase complete sets of TV Series, they are tough to rip, so fiddly.

Hence the large collection of DVDs.

As I rip the DVD now, I am stripping out the DVD and the Jacket and dumping the DVD cases. This significantly reduces the storage space required.

I included jpgs in my last post but they are not showing....

~45K songs, ~300 movies (but about 1/2 not converted or imported into iTunes - using XBMC for movies these days).
Not many TV Shows (usually deleted after I watch).

Not at home so don't have exact #'s or screenshot.

Well, if it were the 90's and my CD's weren't in storage (hell, my vinyl collection is more acessible than my CD's). Feel free to start that thread though. I won't meet your requirements so will have to live with you thinking I am a fraud. How will I ever sleep at night?
