out of curiousity .... is this a good thing that your ipod mini is heating up a little too much while you are transferring songs or charging?

Well, "too much" isn't good, but extended use of the disk and/or charging the battery will heat it up noticeably - one of the reasons Apple recommends against booting from an iPod. Red hot is bad, but it'll get a bit warm if you're loading it up from scratch.
ok then im safe. it got me a little scared ... dont want to loose one of my first apple products yet.
