I've been getting random kernel panics, lately. I installed new memory and switched to Chrome around the same time. I thought it was the memory, took it out, and as I was working on an RMA for the memory, got a crash.

Can't figure out if it's Chrome or not, I wouldn't think a program would cause a complete system crash. Any ideas?

Hey,

just noticed you have Microsoft keyboard drivers; I was getting kernel panics on my Mac mini which I'm now pretty sure was caused by those.

I think there are later drivers available from Microsoft, but I decided to remove mine and stick with Mac keyboard, my machine hasn't crashed since.

Cheers,

Richard

It could be. I used to run Chrome on my iMac. I stopped running it and haven't had a crash in a month. I haven't upgraded to the newest version to see if it fixes the crashes though.

Microsoft keyboard & mouse combo

Hi, let me just add here that I had used a Microsoft keyboard and mouse combo and for five months now my Mac mini (mid 2010 model) has been getting random kernel panics. I get maybe one per week, but when I'm coding I can easily get two or three per day. I have lost a lot of unsaved work.

Like a user on another forum also noted, it seems to always happen just as I'm pressing one of the arrow keys. After spending a heck of a lot of time trying to eliminate possibilities I finally concluded with like 95% probability that the Microsoft keyboard was to blame. After seeing this thread I'm 99.9% sure it was the Microsoft keyboard.

I'm now using a cheap Logitech keyboard that didn't claim to work with Mac but works fine. The Microsoft one had a Mac logo on the box (supports Windows and Mac) when it clearly has issues with Mac so I'm gonna push for a refund on the keyboard after struggling with it for 5 months.

eon.zuurmond posted on "my" thread about the same issue, frequent kernel panics that I suspect are related to Microsoft keyboard drivers:

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/861155/

The one other clue I'd add is that almost every kernel panic came while I was surfing the web, and most often in Camino. Granted, I spend more time in Camino than most other apps, but it is an interesting coincidence that shaun3000 reports his panics come in Chrome.
