I just did a clean install on my early 2008 mbp. Havn't done any updates yet. I've read somewhere on the forums that it is better to download "combo updates" straight from Apple and use the files for updating SL.

Is this true? Or should I just go through System Update and let the OS do it?

i dont see how it could be different. i think this is sort of like the case of the ps3, do u want to let the ps3 do its thing or download the update yourself n do it yourself. I believe the concern is that the autodownload might corrupt or screw itself over where as downloading yourself u can make sure the file is completely downloaded before you install...?

i would just save the hassle n let software update do its thing.
