Remote access to NAS from iPhone / iPad

there are a couple by the same company. The first is called filesconnect. You can access nas through afp, ftp, etc.... remotely. Stream media right to your ipad/iphone. They have a more expensive one called cloud connect pro that does the same but also allows you to remote desktop as well. I was looking for this kind of app for a while and it does everything i need. I no longer have to store any media on my phone or ipad. I stream it from my nas drive that is at my house. They both are great, i use cloud connect pro the most. Best app ever.

I use FileBrowser, which does pretty much the same thing as FilesConnect, but has been around longer and is half the price. FilesConnect does AFP protocol though, which is interesting as I thought this was not allowed under Apple policy.

Remote access is tricky as many ISPs block the ports you need to use on your router for security reasons (as well as to prevent people from running a server). You have to use DynDNS to get around that, which is a free service, but I haven't bothered setting that up yet. For local wifi NAS access, FileBrowser works like a charm.

Here's the page I used, note that it ultimately didn't work because my ISP blocks port 445. I may try mapping an alternate port that isn't filtered when I have time. Looks like that's the workaround as opposed to DYNDNS.

Looks like FilesConnect may indeed be the answer simply because most ISPs don't bother to block port 548, which is what AFP uses. But they do block port 445, so FileBrowser won't work remotely (as it uses SMB).

FilesConnect worked!

FilesConnect app worked perfectly. Can connect my iPhone 6 to my LG NAS remotely.

1) Saved Places clicked add.
2) Clicked Apple File Sharing (AFP)
3) Filled out Hostname as xxxxxx.lgnas.com (lgnas.com provides a DN service for free)
4) Filled in Username and Password
5) Port 548

Hit Save in upper left corner and that was it. Now just click on the name in my Saved Places and I can stream music, view photos and file transfer.

Is there anything like VLC there, why have they taken VLC down?
I was streaming movies directly to my ipad via PNP FTP.

I have downloaded some costly apps, all of which have nothing in terms of feature like the VLC. For some stupid reason AVHD doesn't play back DTS.
