Ever since updating to lion, this error window (there was a problem connecting to the server, urls with the type "file" are not supported) will pop up occasionally, first appeared in dp1 and then disappeared in dp2 and dp3. Now in dp4, when I clicked the "revert to saved" option of text edit app, this window pops up again. Any idea? Thanks.

Does not happen on mine. What does the system log show at the time? I'm curious what "server" it thinks it is connecting to. Report as a bug.

Thanks for reply. I checked the log and found it as:

I don't know why your TextEdit is being denied permission to write to "deny file-write-data /.DocumentRevisions-V100", which is were the version information is stored.

I'm still confused by the error message. NetAuthAgent is used to mount remote servers, so why the error. How are things installed? Any other users having the problem on this system?

No , if you have no revisions you care about losing, copy the /.DocumentRevisions-V100 directory, and then delete it. Any program will recreate it once a revision is made. Maybe it is corrupt? You can always put it back.

Thanks for the tip, will have a try.

found the file, copied it to desktop, deleted the original one, secure empty trash, then started textedit to edit a txt, and the error showed again...

had another try, deleted both original and copied ones and secure empty trash, now there's no problem coz i can't even enter the version interface, now when i try to save a version, it says: the document "untitled.rtf" could not be saved. i remember i have disabled local snapshots back in dp1, is this the reason for all the mess here?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8J2 Safari/6533.18.5)

They removed the function to disable it in DP4. So you deleted the directory and can't move it back?
You can create the directory, I'm not at my computer but can get you the owner and permission settings or for now make them readable by everyone. Chmod 777 for now and set permissions later if that works.

i already deleted that file, and don't know how to create one...
one more thing i noticed, before deleting that, when i set the permissions in "get info", it shows this
wbt1s6.jpg

so does it has something to do with dropbox???

alright, i found someone saying "sudo tmutil disable local" can disable local snapshots, so i typed that and also "sudo tmutil enable local" in terminal just to have a try... that folder appears again, then restarted computer, and now i'm back to the starting point, same error window...i also noticed, maybe it's because the local snapshots function is still disabled, even though i can enter the version control interface, after a restart, those versions will be lost.

It's actually a directory.
The permissions on it should be
d--x--x--x 7 root wheel 238 Mar 30 21:03 .DocumentRevisions-V100

It shows read write.
What does it show in terminal when you run ls -la on your / ? Do you see those permissions?

Yes, forgive my mistake, it's a directory. After I changed permission from "no access" to "read and write", it does show
drwx--xrwx 7 root wheel 238 13 Jun 05:08 .DocumentRevisions-V100
in the terminal. Yet the error remains...

Hmm. I'm not really sure what else to try. Strange that the error acts like TextEdit is trying to access it using NetAuthAgent. Sorry, I have no more ideas, other than the crazy one of a new install. Overkill. Maybe someone else can offer a suggestion.
Do other programs give the same message when they try to make a version? or is it just TextEdit?

C'mon bro, u have already helped me so patiently, thanks so much. Yes, preview gives the same message. Is the server on the sidebar below "apple" (as shown in screenshot) related with this problem?
23jib7s.jpg

This server there is really weird, it doesn't open upon clicks.

I'm not sure. Is there an eject symbol next to it? Can you right click and disconnect? I'm assuming you don't recognize it?

Not sure. In the Finder you can't access it at all? In terminal does it show up as a mounted volume?

Can't access it in the finder. Actually the case is, when I click it, it shows an empty folder, and the icon on the top of the window is a corrupt or "void" one. And within a blink less than a second, the finder window will jump back to the previous normal finder window. How to show it in terminal?

Open terminal type cd /Volumes and see what it lists. It should show you what is mounted like that weird server.

Tried in terminal but it doesn't show that server. I tried backup in time machine, and the same error message shows. The log is here:
