Doesn't this sound too good to be true? The GM edition of Lion only came out last week. If they're waiting for Lion to be ready (as is widely believed), 14th July seems a bit optimistic to me. 🙁
But I do hope the backlit keyboard comes back in the MBA. 🙄

As the new iMacs demonstrate, the gap between Xeon and i7 isn't as dramatic as it once was.
The main reason for Apple to wait for Xeon is to bring dual 6-, 8-, or 10-core Sandy Bridge Xeon Mac Pro (at $1000-4000 per CPU) vs. dual 4-core Sandy Bridge Xeon available today (at $200-800 per CPU).
Granted, few folks need fastest workstation money can buy, but Apple will do much better with cheaper and still faster than current generation Mac Pros.
Monday 18/7/2011 will be exactly 1 year and 2 months after the last update of the MacBook. I hope they update it Tuesday 19 otherwise it's too long, better drop it...
128gb of ram? What the hell do you need that for??? Our current G5 has 4gb of ram. I guess I should get at least 8gb when we get our new one... but no way in hell am I going to buy upgraded ram from Apple. I'll get it from newegg

Have you tried 128GB on current Mac Pros? No reason it shouldn't work, just don't think anyone has bothered to test and report. If they use LGA 2011 then it should be at least 128GB per CPU.
SL GM came out on August 13th, SL was released on the 28th. 15 days. Lion GM was released on July 1st, so the 14th would be about the same length of time.
Oh, I'm sorry, was that rumor confirmed then? Or at least substantiated enough to warrant such smug responses?

Am I mistaken with my terms, or technically is there no such thing as a "gold master" for OS X Lion? Given that it is supposed to be purely a digital release, a gold master (physical golden disc used as a master template for CD/DVD production factories) cannot exist?
The term still may apply though, in that it is the "final and locked in" version of the code that will be released to the public. However, again considering the digital only nature of Lion, the time frame from "GM release" to "public release" can be exceedingly short, since there is no need to actually ship a golden master to a factory and have physical media made. Really wouldn't all they would need to do would be to upload it to the mac app store server and that's it?

I can live with 128 GB on a notebook. I wonder what the expect people that download anything HD from iTunes to do. I just have a few episodes and that is already 1/3 of my entire used space.

Every time I hear that it makes me die a little on the inside.
As much as I would LOVE another new Mac Pro, I think my 2009 8-core 2.93Ghz Nehalem (first i7 derivative xeon) is still a screaming fast machine...
What I am excited about though, is the prospect of new GPU's - perhaps some Radeon 69XX models... which I expect will be compatible with the 2009/2010 models. Then I'll feel better about selling my 2 x 24" screens and upgrading to 2 x 27" screens. Radeon 4800 is getting a little long in the tooth.
My Current setup is:
8 core 2.93Ghz
16GB RAM
Radeon 4800 (+ an unused nVidia GT120)
OWC Mercury 256GB SSD boot drive
2 x OCZ Vertex 120GB SSD Files drives
2TB WD Black Media Drive
2 x 24" Apple LED Displays
So I think it's still a kick ass machine - as soon as I upgrade the GPU!!

I can 100% guarantee there will not be Blu-Ray on the Pro. But it is easy enough to add yourself.
I find the never ending verbal battle between the anti-Mac Pro and the pro-Mac Pro sides interesting.
The anti-MP folks seem to want it to go away for a variety of reason and they sound like people who for the most part have never owned, needed or used a Mac Pro. If they don't need it then by extention does any one?
On the other hand the pro-MP posters sound like they want or need the features that make the Mac Pro what it is. They also strike me as Mac Pro users.
People who are critical of the Mac Pro mainly because of its processing speed compared to the latest iMacs and MacBook Pros obviously belong to the first camp. They probably buy cars soley based on the 0-100kph time.
I'm looking forward to Thursday.
