So recently I've been getting the spinning beach ball quite a bit. Additionally, my computer's performance with regard to World of Warcraft has worsened quite a bit (contrary to claims by many that anything over 512MB with WoW doesn't matter).

Today I went into the system profile and saw 512MB of RAM, when I have 2x512MB installed (and have for over a year, since the day I bought this PB).

After some troubleshooting I found that both modules work just fine, it's just that the bottom slot isn't detecting the modules. I have APP, and contacted them. All troubleshooting to get the slot to work properly failed. When asked how big of a deal it was to repair, or how long it would take I got pretty vague answers.

Has anyone seen anything like this? How long should I expect my computer to require for servicing something like this? At the moment, this is my only computer and I need it daily for school. I'm even contemplating just buying a 1GB stick and throwing it in the good slot until the end of the semester...the performance drop is that annoying to me.

Thanks!

It'll most likely end up being a logic board replacement (it's faster then trying to troubleshoot and fix the RAM slot). Whenever I've sent a laptop to Apple (Over the years I've probably sent 5 PBs to them) for AppleCare, I've ALWAYS had it back in less then a week. Your experience may vary, but it's always been pretty fast..

I have the same exact problem. Lower RAM slot on a 1.25 PB. I guess the logic board need replaced.

I had a different problem on my PB requiring logic board replacement. Dropped it off at an Apple Store Tuesday, got back to me on Friday. It spent a day sitting around waiting for my yea/nay on a separate out-of-warranty repair though.

I shipped mine in on a Monday, got it back Thursday. They paid for the express box shipping service too. I like that service :D

Thanks everyone for the feedback, which was encouraging. I'm going to try to schedule a repair today at a local Apple Specialist. If they can't get to it soon, it sounds like shipping it out isn't such a big deal anyway.

Thanks again.
