Apple Finally Updates OS X Lion on Mac App Store to 10.7.1
![]() A full week after releasing OS X 10.7.1 via Software Update and Apple's download pages, the company has finally updated its Mac App Store offerings for OS X Lion and the OS X Lion Server components to the new versions. ![]() The update should mean that users newly purchasing OS X Lion will receive 10.7.1 directly rather than having to install the base 10.7.0 version and then update to 10.7.1. With previous major releases of Mac OS X released on disc, Apple has only rarely updated its retail packaging to include more up-to-date versions of the operating systems. For example, Apple's original Mac OS X Snow Leopard discs were eventually supplanted by discs shipping with Mac OS X 10.6.3, but work continued on Snow Leopard after that time, topping out at version 10.6.8. I'd like to see OS X drop Software Update entirely in favour of App Store. It would make things a little messy for those with boxed versions of iLife, iWork, etc, but there's no reason to have two different paths for things like OS X or iTunes.

Finally. Dear gods it's been a whole week, what has Apple been doing just having a big booze party? :roll eyes:

Is it possible for those who already bought 10.7 to redownload the installation file as a 10.7.1 if they're already on 10.7.1?

The app store is still very laggy. I prefer software update

It would mesh well if Apple included support for Delta updates via the App Store rather than needing to re-download everything whenever someone wants to move from version 1.0.1 to 1.0.2, especially when there are 8GB+ Apps.

Convenient
Integrating existing point releases into the initial install is very convenient. I wonder if other patches are included as well.

I wonder if downloading 10.7.1 from the App Store might solve any bugs or problems people have been having. Perhaps the .1 instead of .0 would be empty of certain bugs that may be left over from people who originally downloaded and installed 10.7.0.

so... for people who haven't updated to 7.1 yet... would this show up as an update for you in the app store and you can update directly from there? (has anyone refrained from updating?)

Simply fire up Software Update and update your Mac. Reinstalling from the App Store makes no difference at all.

I would, but I'm too lazy. I'm already back to 10.6.8 and I don't want to spend the rest of my evening finding out. I'll let some other poor schmoe do it and report back later on the boards.

Wow
I previously updated via Software update but my MAS showed 1 update available so I decided to click and see what would happen. It is now downloading a 3.75GB file!! So software updates sends a delta 17mb file and the MAS gives you the entire updated OSX!!! Strange... very strange.
