iMovie '11 picture in picture

I am having an issue when i drag a picture into imovie '11 for a picture in picture. When it lays over the movie it just comes up as a black box. This happens with jpeg and png files. Is anyone else having these problems?

I should mention that this also happens if i do a side by side picture drop.

Same here.. there is apparently no known solution to mankind.

When you import your picture to your event section those it play before putting it in your timeline?

You import pictures straight into a Project. No need to import into Events.
