Should I update my iPad 2 to iOS 5? How do you do it without a UDID? Why shouldn't I? Does it void the warranty? If you guys could just help me with this because I've been trying to figure this out forever, but never got a straight answer. If you guys could give me some info, that would be great.

Don't update to iOS 5 now, it'll be a waste of time, the official update should be out soon sometime this month.

I have yet to see anyone claim to have done it without a UDID. I agree, wait a couple weeks and you can get it for real.

You cannot install the beta without registering your UDID. It's intended for developers to test code against, NOT for use on production devices.

Except this isn't a beta, it's a GM. And yes, you can install it without a registered UDID, just like all other GM builds before it :)

GM = official final version unless something very weird happens

Just upgraded to iOS 5 right now on my iPad2 (not jailbroken, and without a registered UDID), piece of cake without any hiccups. UDIDs are now irrelevant when it comes to using iOS 5 before the public release.

I doubt I will be updating my iPad2 to iOS 5 next week because I don't think it will be jailbreakable for quite some time. If I could downgrade my iOS back to 4.3.3 after trying 5.0, I might. But that's not happening, so guess I will stick to updating my iPhone 4 only. I hate that I might be waiting months again for a new jailbreak.

I think you're wrong, as the JBers have had plenty of time to prepare for this. I would not be surprised at all if the untethered JB comes out the same day as the public release of iOS 5.

I just installed IOS5 GM on my iPad2...works great...very easy...and I'm not JB'k on the iPad so no concern about that.

You will need iTunes 10.5 beta 9 (latest)...

and IOS5 GM...

I just wanted to get a jump on IOS5...I believe IOS5 is the best IOS upgrade in the history of the iPhone...lots of cool new apps and features...

I'll install the official IOS5 on October 12th...

Hmm... Im not able to update my ipad2. I have the right gm ios and correct itunes version, but when i click restore it extracts the firmware but then fails when it trys to validate with apple. What am i doing wrong...
Any tutorial or list up to show the correct steps?

Place the firmware file on your desktop. When you restore you need hit the option key from the keyboard and then hit the restore button on iTunes simultaneiously. Then locate and select the firmware on your desktop. That should be it. ITunes will take some time to process the restore and then it will be installed on your iPad.

Trying to update to iOS5 GM, my itunes keeps saying my iPad is not eligible for the requested build, but I'm positive i have the right ipsw. iPad 2 on 4.3.5, running OSX 10.7.1. iTunes 10.5 beta 9. Also tried on beta 7.

Don't have an answer to your problem...

I installed iTunes 10.5 beta 9 and IOS5 GM and it runs flawlessly on my iPad2 and iPhone4...also using OSX 10.7.1. Perhaps you got a bad ipsw? Might try downloading it from another site.

I've tried tons of them lol. So frustrating.
