icloud syncing with iPhone and Macbook Pro

Hi all,
I'm a bit confused about the whole iCloud business, hopefully someone can shed some light!
From what I can gather everything get's synced to the cloud and then distributed to your iOS devices, providing you have it set-up. I've set everything up and set up a test event on my iPhone to check it works between my Macbook Pro and iPhone. I then plugged in my iPhone and hit backup now, it took a good while to sync (an hour or so), but nothing has changed. My test event is still only on my iPhone, am I missing something here?

Also, does this mean my iPhone won't sync over 3G and it requires Wi-Fi and a charging point?

iCloud syncing runs in the background. Try enabling every single iCloud feature.
Now go to iCal on your Mac. Add an event.
Now go to Calendar.app on your iPhone. It should pop up.
The same goes for contacts, email, etc.


iCloud is near-realtime updating and syncing of data.

Tried what you suggest but no success, does it have to be charging?

Are you sure you're logged in through System Preferences on your Mac?
Try deleting & re-adding the iCloud account on both your iPhone and Mac.
Whenever it asks to delete or keep data, keep the data.

Ah ha, I didn't know I need to be logged in within system preferences!

I don't have a mobileme account however and my login details for icloud and itunes aren't be accepted.

Hi, yeah I'm logged in on my iPhone, but you mentioned I need to be logged in on my Macbook Pro?

There doesn't seem to be an option to log into iCloud on my laptop.
I'm logged into the administrator account, if that's what you mean?

hmmm, don't have the option 'Mail, contacts and calendars'.

DAMN, that's it!

I updated my Macbook on the 11th Oct so figured it would be the new itunes and system update, evidently I was wrong.
