I recently set up my iPhone 4S as new and this morning the phone rebooted itself 3 times within a couple hours. Can any of you guys decipher the data log file and let me know what exactly happened? My only solution I am doing at this point is a full restore to factory settings.

I have had this issue along with a host of others, this has come up the second time for me now after doing two restores & deleting every app so basically the phone is fresh, the only stuff i am not prepared to delete is my music! (and if apple advises this when i phone them up today i will be handing back my iPhone and getting the galaxy s II)

Im not sure, but it seems iOS 5 is extremely buggy, same with lion on my mac, apple seems to be dropping the ball as of late and it's now starting to annoy me so much.....are you also having issues where you have a good reception but internet pages won't load? call's dropping / failing? FaceTime even dropping on wi-fi? texts instantly failing again with good reception (being 3-5 bars with 3G).

As the above issues i just listed are what I'm having at the moment, my iPhone 4 was much better than this! even with the crappy antenna!

I will reply later to see what apple recommends :D your not alone mate lol.

I'm having the same problem

The phone stays at a black screen after it's been locked and I have to hard reboot it.

I checked the Diagnostics log in Settings and it shows a bunch of kernel panics.

I've turned on "send diagnostics to Apple" so at least they are aware.

So my question is: hardware or software problem?

Apple's software quality control has really been lousy lately. They seem to finally have the microsoft bug.

I was told it sounds like a hardware issue only today during my college sessions i was having phone calls from my dad & cousin regarding issues with their iPhone 4, apple then proceeded to say I will be getting a refurb unit!?!!? Refurb on a 4 day old phone?! Total joke, thus I'm willing to say it has been sloppy programming on apple's part!

Also miffed to realise the recently added playlist has also been removed with iOS5 now....really apple?!?

I think it's now time to get UK trading standards involved & alert BBC watchdog

I had same issue, it rebooted twice in one last hour. Should I go to apple to get it exchanged?

Also, I do notice my signal gets lost totally couple times.

Just upgraded from Iphone 4 on Sat, wanted a phone can make sturdy phone call, seems not that case. Apple quality seems is going downhill.

Two random resets for me with my new iPhone 4s white 16gb AT&T phone, here is the crash report from the last. One was after using SIRI, and other was after FaceTime.

i did a full factory restore of the phone and have not experienced a reboot yet so we will see if that fixed it.

faulty hardware would make it more consistent. my inclination is that it is just a software bug of some sort that will hopefully work itself out with the next update.

i have to keep reminding myself that this is iOS 5.0. I am sure things will improve a lot in iOS 5.1, 5.2 etc.

I'm already having an issue with keys not responding when I tap them, or either it selecting wrong keys or typing the same key multiple time over and over, or random keys. The screen also locks up and only let's me select whatever it believes I'm pressing at the current time. I've already done a reset (home+power) and currently reset all settings, now I'm about to do a restore but I'm already very upset with Apple at this point.

Go figure.. any others had this issue? I have a White 16GB iPhone

other than crashing/rebooting. i have more issues with the signal as well.

once a while, I see indicator shows E (Edge), then lost signal and searching for 3G, it is happening few times a day, just as often as crashing/rebooting issue. (My Iphone 4 never had this kind issue when i have the case on)

Does anyone experienced same signal issue as well?

Haven't had that but as said above had issues where the phone won't do stuff when having a good reception.

I ended up having to swap my phone out. Multiple crashes per day. The SIM card was also damaged. So much for quality control.

Same salute with my 4S 64GB, I'm afraid. The phone would crash while in standby and I'd only realise when the thing would come back to life. Looking in the Diagnostic & Usage data revealed the times of many kernel panics (check out the attached screenshot).

Thinking it must be a software problem, I spent many hours deleting apps but to no avail. I was suspicious after using the same software set on my 4 for all seven iOS5 betas and the GM without issues. After a week I performed a full restore but still the problem persisted.

A trip to the Genius Bar in Basingstoke saw them recover the crash reports. Apparently two apps were causing the crashes: mDNSresponder and locationd. I explained to the genius what these were and how they were not user-installed apps. "You obviously know much more about this than I do" was his response. :-( The only thing to do was to swap the hardware. Sure enough this has eliminated the panics.

Top marks to Apple for sorting the problem with such little fuss.

Glad to hear some good customer service from apple, I ended up shouting and bawling at em and they refused to listen, I then decided to demonstrate to their customers how the phone crashes to potential customers, they immediately told the guys serving them they are not interested in buying the phone and walked out only till then when I kept showing it they finally replaced the handset for a new phone, a shame had to be a complete dick to get my issue resolved! But yeah...

And since no issues :D

Bit of a rude way to get a replacement if im honest. I would of thrown you out if you were acting like that. I haven't had these issues but if I do I will report back on this thread.

Sorry but since when was demonstrating poor quality control/ products & customer service rude? Wasn't like I went in shouting and swearing I just went upto a customer & talked to them normally and said about my issues.

In my job if I ignored a customers complaint or didn't find a way to resolve it, I would get inquired why and 9 times outta 10 head down disciplinary route if there is actually an issue that I outright refused to solve... Also for the fact they replaced it new as before said only would be a repair must have shown there was an issue in the first place, can't say you wouldn't lose it after spending a few hundred for a product that didn't work, then have no support or resolvement.

Well, nothing wrong with what you did. Actually apple customer should have the right to know their product has issues and their service sucks (in your case)!

I got my replaced, and never have single issue since. So all i can say, apple's quality is going straight down! They don't want to replace mine at the beginning, but they could not even restore the software on the spot (Blame server is not responding), so embarrassing, they decided to give me new phone instead.

Im also having them same crashing issues, which began after replaceing my first 4s for crackling calls. Im now on my third 4s and still haveing crashes and crackling call problems. Somes the crashes wont reboot at all and i have to put the phone in recovery mode and re-install via my mac. I think im going to take this 4s back to and just get the new galaxy nexus when that comes out, really disapointed!

I experienced the random reboots myself and confirm that I also got the panic kernels. I went to the Apple Store and my phone was replaced. The replacement has not given me the same problem since then.

Same here

Have been having the same problem with my iPhone 3GS ever since I installed iOS 5. I just recently got a new iPhone 4S and it has started doing so as well, after three weeks... My sister's iPhone 4S is now doing it as well! The only thing these three phones have in common under settings, is that they all have cellular data OFF. I have read about people having random reboots with this setting turned OFF. Any of you guys have the same setting OFF? I personally believe it is a Software issue with iOS, since my 3GS worked beautifully before iOS 5.

P.S. Every single crash has its associated kernel panic log in the diagnostics and usage section.
