Apple today officially launched the iPhone 4S in 22 new countries, marking the second round of launches for the device. The company began taking pre-orders last week ahead of the launch scheduled for the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.

While Apple does not offer online sales in all of the new launch countries and customers looking to purchase subsidized models on contract will not be able to purchase online, Apple is currently quoting shipping estimates of 1-2 weeks for unlocked devices in nearly all of the new markets with online stores. The lone exception is Singapore, where all iPhone 4S models are listed as currently unavailable. Demand for the iPhone 4S has been high in that country, with reports indicating that carrier partner SingTel sold out of appointment slots to purchase the device within 90 minutes of opening registration earlier this week.

It's actually quite upsetting to see that T-mobile and other providers delivered phones today (NL for instance) when Apple was unable to do so !

so few deliveries ): I preordered in Denmark literally seconds after they accepted orders with the premier carrier. Delivery-status suggests thursday at the earliest.

No, it is the demand in the primary markets. They launch them separate to not have a too huge gap between demand and availability. It would hurt their image and sales (out of their perspective) if they launch everywhere and can only satisfy 40% of the demand. E.g. someone going to his local "Insert provider company name here"-store to buy the new iPhone and the sales personnel wants to make the deal today so they convince the customer to buy a competitor's product instead. If the costumer knows that the iPhone will launch a week from that day, they will not go into the store with that expectation but rather wait if he wants that particular phone.

You don't get extended warranty in the U.S.
In European countries, the warranty is included by law. So, what they offer optional in the U.S. is calculated in the price in the E.U.

Edit PS: it is $899.43, not $912; about $250 more though - minus warranty still $150. Wondering about the tax because in the U.S., you pay the tax on top and some E.U. countries have 25% sales tax (e.g. Sweden) included in named prices. The price without tax is about $675 then.

Also, in Europe we're quite used to paying the full cost of the phone up front then paying cheap contracts, rather then paying a high contract bill long term.


When you buy the phone unlocked at a high price, your not actually paying much more if you brought it on a subsidised contract, since most of the contract cost is paying off the phone.

Yeah, the list price in the US doesn't include the $99 AppleCare+, or the sales taxes (about $55 in my state).

It is 29th and still Singapore apple store online says" Currently unavailable" I have been keep checking since 10 days ago :(

I know. That is what I missed when I moved from E.U. to U.S. and A. :cool:

The 16 GB one would be around $690 in Sweden without tax. Tax is 25 percent in Sweden.

5300kr (DKK) or EXACTLY 1000 USD at todays exchange rate.

EDIT. 1000 USD is with all taxes paid. (25% sales tax)

Humm, another uninformed person that thinks Socialism is horrible, and the government controls everything. Your link is just one good example of how
most people have a better quality of life in Europe. Consider that the high
vat tax pays for a lot of great programs in Sweden and here in Finland where I live. And I am an expat American so I think I can speak fairly about how the
system works vs the American system. I don't mind paying high vat so that
my kids can have a free university education or subsidized daycare or
virtually no cost universal healthcare. Should I go on.?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this includes their 25% VAT on imported goods. Thus, real price is $729 (912/1.25). For an un-subsidized unlocked iPhone 4S. Unlocked iPhone 4S in USA comes out in Nov priced at $650. Factor in sales tax in most states and AppleCare warranty for $99, and it actually comes out more expensive in the US.

Close, but not quite. Can't just take 0.75* of $912. Have to divide by 1.25 because the original price was increased by 0.25.
