In front of my Mac.
Hey gang, it's been awhile. I recently lost everything on my iMac due to hard disk failure, and of course I didn't have a working backup. All my music and photos are also on my Gen 1 ATV...I have SSH'ed into the ATV but there are no files listed under Music or Photos, yet they are able to be played and looked at. How can I get these from my ATV and back onto my iMac, or can I? TIA

As you already know, they must still be on your ATV1. I don't have an ATV1 and never used one before. Is it possible to re-link your ATV1 to whatever computer you are now using? Then maybe you could carefully check settings to see if you can bring back those files. Just a guess.

I wouldn't take guesses with anything about something like that when it comes to Apple. I had to jump through a 1000 hoops just to do the same with an old iPod that was already linked to 5 dead computers, but since the iPod contained my whole library I wasn't about to give up...I eventually found some strange program, keygen'ed it and got halfway through and then I finally just called Apple and told them my sob story and they fixed it OTA for me so I could re-transfer all my purchases and files to my new account, mac, etc. It was an overall ****** experience and that's why I backup whenever I can...

Id be inclined to pop the HDD out of the ATV and do a direct connect to a Mac. The files are there as you say, so for me anything else would probably tempt fate with a wipe of whats there.

Mind you, I can't say I've ever done this. I've merely looked into doing it as a possible upgrading of the drive in the ATV.
