I normally don't care for flight sims, but damn I'd buy that just to land the shuttle. :)

Maybe they'll add the SLS in 2017. ;)

I do like the shuttle - and especially the landing gear compression and bounce when it touched down. You don't often see that in Flight Simulator X.

But since I've got many hundreds of dollars of expensive addons for FSX (eg, $75 addon planes), I don't want to move over to X Plane 10 and lose those. :(

Plane is way better once you get bused to the user interface.

YES!!!

I love X-Plane 9!

Can't wait to try it out this weekend!!!

I'll buy this for sure!
I assume.. due to the huge amount of data... it will not be available on the Mac App Store. ;)

EDIT:

Whoa.... phrase rhymes with clucking bell:

X-Plane 10 System Requirements

X-Plane 10 requires, at the minimum,

a 2 GHz, multi-core CPU,
2 GB of RAM, and
a video card with 512 MB of on-board, dedicated video RAM (VRAM).
However, for the best experience, we recommend the following:

a 3 GHz, multi-core CPU (or, even better, multiple processors),
4 GB of RAM, and
a video card with 1 GB of on-board, dedicated VRAM.

Runs pretty good on Mac Pro '08!

:)

I know that posting twice in a row isn't very nice, but I just wanted to share my first impressions of X-Plane 10.

Got the demo via the torrent.

Finally downloaded, and copied it over to my /Applications directory.

First of all: it didn't start...
So I gave the whole X-Plane 10 Demo directory full permissions:
(in Terminal.app): sudo chmod -R 777 X-Plane\ 10\ Demo/ <ENTER>

Now it works!

Default settings @ 1920 x 1200 rez:
Settings: high
AF: 4x
AA: off
Rest: dunno

Quick start with my joystick.. Default UA 747-400 @ KSEA... wow!!! Very cool!

Hardware:
Mac Pro '08
ATi Radeon 4870
8 GB RAM
OS X 10.7.2

Those requirements don't look too bad – you can easily build a system meeting those specs for under $1000.

Did you download directly from Laminar or use their torrent? I went with the latter route – got over 500 kB/s that way.

Thanks for the report - how much does the performance suffer with AA turned on? For me, it's distracting to see the jaggies! :)

I downloaded the demo (torrent) and it would not launch in Lion on my MacPro. I booted into windows 7 and it worked fine. Anyone else have issues in os x?

I turned on HDR Rendering. Now, that looks cool! Very good!!
I have the Radeon 4870 card in my Mac Pro. HDR looks terrific (you must turn normal AA off!) but I think my 4870 is just able to handle it... I wonder how it will perform with heavier scenery... but in the demo it's fine.

best Yoke, Throttle, etc...?

I am looking to buy flight controls for a friend, and know nothing about this stuff. He is a pilot in real life, and would love the most realistic feel possible.

Who has? And where can I find yoke, throttle, pedals, etc... for a Mac?
I will also be buying him a program, and from what I've read X10 is the way to go. FOllowed closely by FlightSimulator (i think that was it at least).

For a PILOT, which would you recommend?
Again, I need advice on where to find the controls too.
Please answer both questions.
Thanks.
