I'm gonna go ahead and say that it could be in landscape mode.

I'm surprised so many Apple experts are thinking that it's simply in landscape mode. The spacing is not consistent with landscape, and is consistent with portrait mode.

Some detective work (AKA screenshots).

See that cluster of 6 droplets, arcing up to 1, 2 o'clock?

You don't even SEE those droplets when you hold it in landscape mode. To get the wallpaper, dock icons, and dock shine just as it is in the invitation, you have to hold it in portrait mode. To be precise, hold it in portrait mode, put 5 apps in your dock, put Maps, Calendar, and Keynote as your 3rd, 4th and 5th apps. And there you go.

That would place the Home button (or FaceTime camera) directly under the Maps icon.

Yeah, it's the finger size confounding me most ... not the resolution or orientation. Either we have giant fingers compared to the hand model, or the photo is altered.

The black frame and app icons are nowhere near that large on the iPad 2.

yeah that finger doesn't look right, i just tried to recreate it (not very well) but it shows you that something seems to be off...

hand model

Wait a minute. I know that hand. It was in the Fall 1973 Bulova watch catalog!

I changed my mind about it being a mockup, but even still, proportions don't add up.
Yes, you're right, the resolution change could explain everything.

No, but do you really think the wallpaper and dock positions would change drastically from 5.0 to 5.1...? Not from what I've seen so far (I have used 5.1).

They could, but apple tend to just make higher resolution versions that still look like the originals, so bubble placings etc would be the same. They ARE in the same position on my iPad 2 running 5.0.1, just can't seem to get that angle like the photo.

That could also be due to my slightly chubbier fingers than the hand in the photo :p

Forgot to mention: I see pixels in my photo of my iPad 2. Clear differences in the text too.

Considering you've been using it on a current model and not the next gen display only time will tell.

See???

Why didn't anyone see the word SEE in their invite?? Something to SEE and Touch....

I'm thinking TV???????????????? I guess we'll "see" soon enough!

Gizmodo has a side by side pic with the ipad 2 announcement where you can really see the difference in the resolution.

Landscape orientation.

Please stop posting this and wasting space on every single thread page.

... You tempted me, however I will not say it.

It's NOT in landscape mode.
I've just attempted to recreate this shot using my iPad 2 and the bubble cluster (or rain drops, whatever you like..) just above the finger is only visible in portrait mode.
Also, the 3 icons are on the far right edge of the dock (again, identified by the bubble cluster), so this doesn't suggest at all that there's no home button because the shot can be taken without including the home button.

The photo is a mockup, I believe, becuase I just couldn't get the angles right to show the same proportion of icons, bubbles, finger or bezel.

It could be, this picture was taken with an early version of the software, when the artwork did not line up exactly right.

What exactly makes you think so? They've never done that for an iPad or iPhone.

The products have already shipped to the US. I can't picture them sitting on them after the announcement.

I would imagine at least some of the attendees will also be looking at the new iPad.

Sarcasm aside: you're over-analyzing. There may also be a new aTV, but the use or otherwise of the word "see" isn't indicative of anything in particular.

I haven't read the whole thread yet but am fascinated by the no home button debate. Here's my question is it possible there is a home button but it's not a physical button at all ? Then the software developers wouldn't really need to know at all.

Tim Cook: "Oh, and one more thing. We've decided to make the iPad 3 even better by making it $99."

Ok, I can dream, can't I? :)
