Here's a question - and it's probably been answered somewhere..

I Just replaced my 2009 Mini with a Mid 2011 2.5GHz i5 model.

I want to add a 2nd drive to the machine. Checked System Profiler and the drive location shows "Bottom" bay for the stock drive.

iFixit sells that $69 kit which has everything I need, but they make reference that it's a bottom cable. Don't I already have one of those cables? Does it come with the correct cable?

There is a difference between upper and lower cables.

Am I understanding correctly that there's a naming change by Apple with reference to the 2010 and 2011 models?

2010 - They named the cable you need as "Lower" which is the "Upper cable 2011?
2011 - They named the cable you need as "Upper" which is the "Lower" cable for 2010?

Bottom line - which cable do I need for my model mac?
I will need grommets and screws too.

Do I really need to fork out $69 + $30 to ship it to Canada?

In the 2011 minis, the 'top' bay (the bay you cannot easily access without removing the logic board) uses cable 076-1391.

The 'bottom' bay (the bay that is closest to the black round disk) uses cable 076-1390.

Both cables are available from http://www.welovemacs.com; although pricey.

Is 076-1391 the cable that comes with the screw/grommet kit from ifixit.com?

I bought this one on eBay and installed it last week end on a mid-2011 i5 Mac Mini.
You can find it cheaper though.
You can get grommets and screws in a computer store or even an hardware store.
The tricky part in the iFixit guide is to extract the logic board for the enclosure.

I believe so, yes.

I have a Mini Server.. but I think the dual core mini's that come default with one drive have the drive mounted in the bottom bay; meaning the "2nd hard drive kit" would put the drive in the top bay, and therefore use the 1391 cable.
