Following yesterday's unboxing video of the new iPad in Vietnam, which has also resulted in benchmarks and sample photos and screenshots from the device surfacing, Hong Kong's PCM Online reports (via Engadget) that it too has gained early access to the new iPad.

Still photo comparison from new iPad and iPad 2

PCM's device is a white 16 GB 4G model, and the report includes a number of photos and benchmarks of the device comparing it to an iPad 2, as well as a video highlighting a number of features of the device and containing a sample video shot with the new iPad at the end of the clip. The new iPad's video quality from the rear camera is obviously superior to that of the iPad 2, but still suffered from a bit of overexposure in PCM's sample clip.

Benchmarking the graphics performance of the new iPad also showed significant improvement over the iPad 2, with benchmarking tests boosting performance from 90 frames per second (fps) to 140 fps in the GLBenchmark 2.1.1 Egypt offscreen test and from 146 fps to 250 fps in the GLBenchmark 2.1.1 Pro offscreen test. Similar data had previously been uploaded to GLBenchmark's site, although its authenticity has not been confirmed.

It's still beyond me who these iPads are circulating in southeast Asia. Are they originals?

The porn/1990's-video-game-character-selection-screen music won me over.

Some people will never be impressed with this device though.
This is a really exciting device, even if you think the benchmarks aren't good enough.

Really? I've noticed quite a bit of shrugging and "meh" going on in various threads around here. It baffles me.

I should have been clearer. No one's complained on this thread!

the only people who are complaining are people who just bought iPad 2s.

Apple was never in the state-of-the-art in the camera field. This is neither a source of concern for Apple and consumers.

I'm a photography enthusiast, so a cameraphone is responsible for much of the fun with a mobile device. Although I have analog and digital SLR cameras, I like having an all-around good and small camera like the one in the Nokia N8 or the upcoming N808 Pureview (supposedly it will have raw file support also).

Apple is proving being great on the viewing field, but iPad and iPhone lack a good camera with something like Xenon flash, autofocus with AF illuminator and wider dynamic range (this is the correct term that was mentioned as "overexposure" in the MR thread).

I'm actually a bit disapointed, it is true that the new display is amazing and the improvement of the camera is noteworthy but the number one reason I got rid of my ipad 2 was due to its weight and the new ipad is actually heavier. I'll wait until the smaller ipad comes out.

The video is useless to me, you can't tell the difference in the screen between the screens, but the picture looks cool and you can see the difference. :)

When iPad 2 came out, they weren't happy because it wasn't a retina display. Now that it's a retina display, they aren't happy because it's not quad core. Don't worry, they'll have something to complain about next time too.

The benchmarking is interesting, but I assume it's using the same test on both machines? What I'd like to see is how the new iPad's performance with a 2048x1536 buffer compares to the iPad 2's performance with a 1024x768 buffer. Everyone knows the the iPad has a faster GPU, the real test will be is it enough faster to make up for having to drive 4X as many pixels? I realize this will be someone dependent on the application, for example I imagine 3D OpenGL games will have a different profile than iPhoto or whatever.

So is it really that heavy for you?

EDIT: your sig! you have a 17" MBP and want an iPhone with a bigger screen. LOL

i'm getting mine on the 16th according to tracking. my only complaint, and certainly not a deal breaker, is storage capacity. with the increased size in apps the iPad 3 will hold less. i wish i could add a memory card or they bumped it to 128gb. but i'll live. i just hate when i remove something then re-add it i lose data. especially in games.

This is because people would like to have a retina display at the time of iPad 2 launch. Now Apple should provide us an iPad with a retina display and go a step further, like bringing that texture technology which we could effectively touch and feel what we would see on the screen.

I'm expecting at least something like that in the next iPad, but probably it will only come with upgraded processor. Then iPad 5 will have this texture techonology, but it will be too late again.
