HI,

I have tried to convert my iron man dvd, with handbrake to watch on my iPad, or iPhone.

and i read on various forums to get the best quality, is to use the apple tv preset. and i did that and the picture quality is terrible. so i tried all the different presets and they are all terrible quality, nothing even close to the dvd quality.

what am i doing wrong?

thanks

i included some screen shots

You could use Universal or AppleTV 2 setting and bump up the average video bitrate to 2200 - I know this is counter to the HB developer's constant quality recommendation, but sometimes I feel setting an average bit rate is beneficial.

This film is 2.35:1 so you are only going to be working with 720x368 source resolution from the DVD.

If its a movie you love and will watch often, you might consider just buying the HD version on iTunes ($16.99)

Dynaflash seems to be the guru on this though, if he sees this and weighs in I'd go with his recommendation.

I'd use the iPad or AppleTV preset and bump the RF for Constant Quality to 19. One RF factor can make a big difference.

It also looks like it isn't cropping out the letter boxing. This is wasting bits. As others have suggested, try the ATV2 or "high profile" preset.

Thanks for all the help.
I will try the different suggestions, and post some screen shots

here is screenshots of me converting the iron man movie, using the apple tv preset, and adjusting the RF to 19.

the picture quality still looks terrible.
