I want to record gaming on my MacBook Air. What is the best software to do so? I have been using QuickTime to record them until now, but it is just not so responsive.

Camtasia, iShowU HD, ScreenFlow and some others might help.

The problem with Screenflow is that I just can not seem to figure out how to record a specific part of my screen.

Don't think ScreenFlow gives you that option, but Camtasia does it well
For that reason, I often opt for Camtasia instead
