My phone is about to die so would it be okay to buy a 4S this late in the cycle or should I milk every last drop from my current phone and wait for the rumoured iPhone 5 launch?
 
there will almost certainly be an iPhone 5 this year, my guess would be that its worth the wait.
 
My upgrade is now available from my operator and I will be holding out for the new iPhone. I never like buying phones mid cycle
