Can anyone confirm server tools for ML (IE Workgroup Manager, Server admin, etc.) have been discontinued? If so, that sucks. I work in a school district with 9 schools + an admin building. We have 6 building techs who do the first responder stuff with the clients (fix basic problems, create new users, change passwords, etc.). They are given access to WGM for creating new users & changing passwords. We also have 4 district techs who do the higher level stuff (server, network, major hardware repair, etc.) who are given access to all the server tools.
If Server Tools have been discontinued, that's bad for us. On the one hand, the district doesn't want the buildings techs to have full access. to Server.app & all server settings as that just increases the risk of something going wrong.
On the other hand, if we don't allow the building techs any access to Server.app, then it would take hours (if not days) to have the district techs do it. And it's not good to tell a new kid "Sorry, you have to wait a few hours to do log in." That basically wastes the whole school day for that kid.

Mac OS X Server use to be $499 or something.
Now it's $39.98 ($19.99 + $19.99). Hardly "twice as much".
The price isn't the issue. The fact that 75% of the Server OS had been destroyed since 10.6 is the issue. Apple's wonderful OS X Server "upgrades and enhancements" made it an easy decision for us to start swapping our Xserves with Dell PowerEdge servers loaded with Linux or Windows.
Agreed. Plus, with the lack of Xserves, it's getting a lot harder to manage services.
