Network attached drives missing after sleep since ML upgrade

I've noticed this happens since ML upgrade, however Carbon copy cloner was updated at the same time so it could be related.

From the CCC.log:

..so the backup is done and it unmounts the network drives (not part of the schedule I might add but it does it anyway, part of sleep perhaps?)

So are the two related? Anyone else seeing this? I never used to have to manually re-mount my network drives after waking it up.

Looks like all external drives are missing after sleep. When I wake my computer and use disk utility there is no references to my 2 external drives.

This is a significant issue.

Further detail of investigations

Hi Chaps

I'm experiencing the same issue. Although, I have come to notice:

  • when putting my MBP late 2011 to sleep and network connection is over LAN, no re-mount is conducted on wake


  • whereas conducting the same procedure with LAN off and WiFi enabled, the network drives are re-mounted. :eek:

I've seen on other threads, there is a paying utility called Jettison which does just what we're trying to achieve. But I'm not prepared in paying for software, when the OS was performing these activities as normal operations with Lion.

To me - this is a bug. :(

Hope this is soon fixed...it's a nuisance.

Jettison does not help.

Funny, I am usin LAN so I will try what you report and post again later.

I have a similar issue.

There are 2 user accounts on my IMAC - both of which connect to 2 network drives (our media).

When I switch from user A to user B - fast switching not logging out - the icons for the network drives change to a fold icon with a red no entry sign on them. They are not accessible at this point.

It interesting to note that this does not always happen - more often than not.

My system is wired LAN

I'll try the LAN vs WLAN trick ...

I've noticed that Email shows accounts disconnected each morning too, restarting it restores them.

I was also performing an iTunes library consolidation overnight and this morning I saw it'd failed, losing 92 movies in the process, FFS !!! I can only assume the network connection died while it was running.

Energy saver set to never sleep the computer so no idea why this is happening now or why it is sleep related ?!?!

I've been continuing the experiment. And it is indeed not very consistent. I have a NAS on which I have my iTunes library on (200GB approx). I'm usually connected over Gigabit Ethernet to my NAS box and it's been working a charm until I updated to Mountain Lion. :(

I've tried AFP, SMB, and NFS shares. Today...they seem to feel like mounting after sleep. Yesterday - constantly they were falling off. Even after restart they were mounting as expected (I have them as Login Items on startup).

Strange, Strange....

the plot thickens...

Thank you for the tip ... I'll try it out. Totally unacceptable to have a system sleeping and doing odd stuff during disk functions - I'm getting a little sick of Apple at the moment - having probs with unreliable iTunes/ATV/Remote app too.

This only happens for me when my 2010 MBA is running off of battery. The same doesn't happen when it is plugged into power. This is frustrating since this didn't happen with 10.7.

I'm getting this issue on my two MBPs running Mountain Lion - 15" rMBP and 2009 17" MBP. Doesn't matter whether I'm on LAN or WLAN or whether running off mains or battery, my network drives are usually disconnected after waking from sleep. Not always, but usually. Had no problem on 10.7.
