Strangely, one of the marks on the chrome part of my white phone has rubbed off. Looks flawless now minus these couple of things. Would be nice if that diagonal mark at the bottom wasn't there... Maybe it'll also rub off somehow?

Three people reported earlier today on the black scuff thread (and EngenZerO on this thread it seems) that what they initially thought were scuffs/nicks, were actually tiny bits of reflective glue residue that they were able to remove by rubbing them off without causing further damage.

Won't cure everyone's problem I'm sure, but it might help some of you.

Outta the box!

I unbowed my pre-ordered iPhone 5 and there was a scratch in the aluminum band on the lower left side! No pic sorry as I am typing this with my iPhone
UPDATE: took pic with iPad. Notice scratch on bezel!! Like I said right outta the box!

Had some issues with excess glue around the bezel near the volume switch. Also had a ding in the bezel at the top. Took it to the apple store today and had it swapped out. The new one is in perfect condition.

The IRONIC thing is...

It had to be the iPhone 5, with all the cosmetic imperfections didn't it? It's so ironic because they were really emphasizing the fact that they used new machines to make the new iPhone and how it was a "Jewel" rather than a phone.

APPLE NEXT TIME DON'T TALK OUT OF YOUR ASS!

My wife got a white one and when we opened it at the store, it had a nasty gash on it. Luckily they swapped it for another one on the spot. Now it's perfect.

My white iPhone5 came with little scuffs out of the box. I immediately took pictures and made a genius bar appointment for today. The apple store representative( I cannot be too loose with the term "genius" ) was more than willing to get me a replacement phone. He brought the first one and it also had some minor scratches. The next phone he brought had a ding on the top edge of the display cover. The third phone had some dust between the camera lens and the lens cover. The 4th one he brought out was the last model in stock and luckily it turned out to be ok.
I'm really surprised to see so many cosmetic blemishes in Apple products. I've bought many apple products so far and never have I seen so many manufacturing imperfections. My 1.5 yr old macbook air is still spotless. I tend to handle my gadgets very carefully and preserve their mint condition as much as possible.

Yeah, that must be what happened to the top mark I had. The bottom one may be an actual scratch though :/

Not sure if I want to bother with a replacement, but mine also has a nick in the back aluminum. White 32GB ordered from Apple. The earpods case is also a mess. That's not a big deal at all, but when you open the box up and the first thing you see are shadows all over because of the scuffs on the plastic, it's kind of lame.

I originally thought something was just stuck under the plastic making it bubble up like that because there was dust/lint/whatever and the earpods case was sloppy. But after taking the plastic off the back, the space doesn't come off and I'm afraid to try too hard for fear of just making it worse.

Like everyone has said, it's not hugely noticeable and I'm sure it will see worse damage as I use it, but it shouldn't come that way.

@bsmsam
Id that's only cosmetic defect on your iPhone 5 then I wouldn't replace it. Chances are you'll get more defective unit.

Just got back from Apple store 14st in NYC. Had to go through 3 phones before I got one without nicks, dents, etc. The genius chick said even a few of her coworkers had exchanged phones because of issues. She said black is worse with discoloration issues. Apple Has a huge mess on its hands.

I agree, I wouldn't want dents, and dings on my premium brand new out of the box iPhone 5 either, however some of these pics are a little overboard. Some of these pics in fact I couldn't even tell what the OP was referring to. I guess if you're looking for problems, you're bound to find something.

Found a nick on the left top corner of white iphone5 during unboxing

Lol apple apologist noobs. Went through 6 iPad 3s, 3x retina MBPs, and now 4 iPhone 5s. Go Tim Cook!

Hey guess how many tried it took for a perfect iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPad 2, MacBook Pro, iMac, MacBook Air, several iPods? When Jobs was around, EVERY single one was flawless on the first purchase.

If you're not satisfied with the products then why do you keep buying them?
