Maybe it was part of a leasing contract. Companies that offer leasing contracts usually mark the leased goods with their name as a proof of ownership. If the leaser goes broke or the contract doesn't get paid they can get their goods back.

That's exactly what it is. My company used to put asset tags on things too, especially back in the '90s. :)

Very cool. Anyone want to trade a 1980's disk drive possibly used by Steve Jobs for a new iMac? :)

I think I'm still going to turn it into an external hard drive, but it will be unique with that sticker.

No don't (unless you can reverse the mod). You will destroy it's value.

It was property of Apple (they never leased anything out - leasing was done at the Computer Store level and would have the leasing company's tag on it).

Sell it to one of us collectors if you don't want it...

I bought this 800k External Drive on ebay to turn it into an external hard drive as found on instructables. (http://www.instructables.com/id/Vintage-Apple-External-Floppy-Drive-as-a-USB-HD-En/)

When the drive arrived it had this sticker on it.

Maybe this was an in-house unit? Thoughts?

Apple made those drives back in the day, I think it was from about 1989-1990 and it was not only manufactured by Apple, it was an Apple in house unit.

DO NOT ALTER IT IN ANY WAY. Collectible and interesting.

Again, as this was an inhouse unit, don't open it or mess around with it. Collectible. Get another one to work on.

Well if anyone wants to trade it for something useful to me I'm all in for a trade otherwise I'm not interested in "collecting" this item. I have plenty of collectible junk in a drawer in my basement.

Put it up on eBay or see if someone here wants an Apple owned early Apple drive.
