bought myself this today, but have to wait until my birthday in a month to wear it
Why do you have to wait for your birthday to wear a present you bought yourself?
not at all, it's my 40th next month, and i'm kind of difficult to buy for, so took up the suggestions of family and in lieu of them buying me stuff just for the sake of buying something they'd rather give me money to put towards something special so after much deliberation came up with this

It's more a style piece though, as the matt black-on-black makes legibility difficult in anything besides bright sunlight.
I have the same problem with the Puma Handless watch that I have. It's my favorite, but pretty much useless haha.
Here are my watches that I wear. The silver is a Swiss Army. It was a Christmas present from an ex, which cost him nearly $1000 (5 years ago). The back of it is engraved, so it's kind of weird when I wear it. The black one is Marc Jacobs. The black one is considerably heavier than the silver one.

Very true! I mostly use my phone to check the time anyway.
Very nice SkippyMac! Tissot is a great watch for the price. And NorfolkMustard that would be my fav too if I was fortunate to own timepiece from AP!
