LifeProof has sent a note to customers notifying them that the company's iPhone 5 waterproof case is taking a little longer to finish than had been planned. LifeProof CEO Gary Rayner said in an email that the company has an "army of engineers working 24/7 on three continents" to get the case into customers hands.

You may be asking, "Why is LifeProof not yet on the market when other protective cases are?" The answer is simple: LifeProof is the only everyday case that's water proof, dirt proof, snow proof and shock proof - which means we won't design a product with gaping holes over the camera, microphones and speakers just to rush a case out the door. Without these protections, other case makers avoid any technical complexity in getting their cases ready.

At LifeProof, we make a promise to our customers to deliver the best case possible, even if it means our case takes a little longer to get to you.

Additionally, all LifeProof cases need to pass thorough independent lab testing to meet Military Standards for shock and impact protection, and for IP-68 water, dirt, and snow protection. Our team is working with total dedication and urgency because we believe this is worth getting right.
Rayner expects to ship the first LifeProof Fr? case for the iPhone 5 within the next month. Interested customers can sign up to be notified when the case finally goes on sale.

I love what LifeProof does but I cant deny the fact that their cases are arguably the least ergonomically i have ever used. If they solve that problem, then they will be the best case maker, bar none.

Lifeproof cases are for who live active style. My friend bikes 50-100 miles on the weekend. In Florida especially during raining season. Life proof is a saver if you are on a long bike ride.

Life proof is not for everyone.

Waterproof? It's already waterproof without a case. Google it!

//Not sure of validity, but I've seen quite a few YouTube videos demonstrating it. Pretty interesting! Though I'll certainly never try it myself haha

These cases are damn ugly, it's like clothing a porn star!

In this context, it's like giving a porn-star protective equipment in a construction zone. Can't have your porn when she/he is dead. Unless you're into that sort of thing...

Exactly!!! This is why I had the LifeProof case for my iPhone 4. I like to have my phone on my when I bike, rock climb, run, play paintball, snorkel, paddle board, etc. The LifeProof Case IS A MUST! If your active and want your phone on you.

Or you can use a plastic bag. It will look better too.

.

Yeah, I'm talking to you too Bag Boy!!! Have fun taking a fall from a bike or while rock climbing with your expensive phone in a Bag, in your pocket!

For the the things I do both work & play the I have found Lifeproof the only ay to go. However I will say that the case does muffle the sound some and makes it harder to hear text and ringer sounds.

I don't think they were announcing a delay.. they were just giving people a much-needed update on their progress.

Agreed, lifeproof cases are not for everyone, they are not attractive, they mitigate microphone quality and the touchscreen/display cover is cheep and flimsy.

Their website goes into details about improving audio quality by installing the case more carefully around the microphone.

All things considered, it's great to know your phone is safe in a cycling jersey, kayak, rainy back-country trip or ski lift.

My other half has a terrible habit of just smashing up her phones or dropping them in to water. I just have no idea how she destroys them like she does.

I got her one of these for her 4s. It's a bit of an aggressive-looking thing but it does the job and her phone is holding up well!

As stated in LinkedIn, 51-200 employees. That's a pretty small "army" of engineers.

I don't need to scuba dive, and I'm not wrestling bears in the woods, but I do like using my iPhone in the shower for music and the occasional email, and I drop my iPhone a few times a month. My 4S case has held up quite well over the last year to situations that would cause any other case to fail. The LifeProof case isn't perfect, but it's far better than any other cases I've come across, and lets me do more with my phone, worry-free. I've had none of the audio or mic issues people sometimes complain about. I've used Siri to create reminders in the shower with the water running, on occasion. The screen protector aspect could use some improvement, but doesn't degrade the use of the iPhone, so I'm not sure it's really worth bringing up. I personally like the looks of the case. Clean and functional like the iPhone inside.

One reason I'm glad to be on the S cycle is that if the phone design doesn't change, cases are ready on release day. As long as Apple makes the iPhone 7th gen with the same body, and LifeProof has cases for the 6th gen out by then, I'll be happy.

The bag comment is for those who want to keep their phones protected from WATER, not from falls while exercising. If you're active, you can still put your case-protected phone in a plastic bag when it might be subjected to rain or splashes while kayaking.

To the peeps saying its ugly - WHaaaaaat ???
Its pretty slim for what it does.

Now on to the facts.

Why the delays ?

Look at the camera section. The protrusions around the lens and flash are causing problems.

Its a lemon in its current form factor. Thats why they have a ton of people "Working on it"

This wouldn't be a permanant case for me. I would use it when doing work outdoors or even if for whatever reason I wanted to take pictures underwater. Its nice to know that if I were ever in a position to take such pictures that I'd have a case in which I could do that with.
