How many Apple devices/computers do you own, why, and how do you manage them all?

Mac Mini as my day-to day machine. Initially brought just to run my trading platform but it's quite a smooth running machine (after maxing out the ram and adding an SSD). Use with a 27" Dell monitor.
MacBook Pro still in use as my portable machine. Recently took it on me with holiday, forgot it weighs a ton. It was also unnecessary because of my iPad 2 which is what I carry on me all the time. It handles most of my needs which are casual at best. Plus 3G is handy on the go.
Then I have my iPhone 4S which I use for everything.
The only thing I want to swap out is my MacBook Pro for an 11" MacBook Air. I'm going to be traveling a lot this year and there is no way in hell that I'm dragging the Pro around 😱

I just use 1 Macbook Pro (early 2008, pre-unibody) as my main computer. Then I have a 32gb iPod Touch that is pretty much left in my car at all times for traveling music purposes.
I was wondering, why the main computer as the data center can't be simply replaced with external hard drives?
I'm considering to keep my old MBP as the data center while having a new MBA as the mobile computer, but i still can't understand how it will differ from using just an external hard drive.

rmbp 15" - my all-in-one work and home computer
ipad 3 - lately, it just sits on the couch and serves as my post-work consumption device. can't stop playing fifa '13.
iphone 4s - goes everywhere i go, obviously.
black macbook, mid-2008 - we use this as our media server.
wife's mba 13" - used to be her work/home computer for designing jewelry but now that she's not working, it sits on the couch most of the day.
wife's iphone 4s - i think she uses this more than anything else
planning to buy her the ipad mini soon so she doesn't have to use her phone all the time. and at some point down the line, i plan to purchase a mac mini and tb display. oh, and an apple tv, just as soon as i return to the states for a visit.

Personally, I own three.
- iPhone 5. Everyday use.
- 2007 Macbook Pro. Everyday sue
- iPod Video (2007). Synced with iTunes for videos and movies on my TV.
I should just invest in an Apple TV. Also, now that the new iMac's are out, I will probably be buying one and selling my Macbook Pro.

I don't remember if I've posted here if not here it goes. My friends think I'm a real nut for having so many Apple products.
I have the airport extreme
two 3rd gen Apple TV (just got the second one today) we don't have cable anymore.
an iPad 2 I use as my mobile device.
an iPhone 4
and I use my dad's MBP while I wait for the iMac.
My iPhone and iPad are backed up to iTunes (I'm having issues with iCloud right now)
The Apple TV's are linked to the master iTunes library with Home sharing.
The MBP is used for any work I can't easily do on my iPad and to manage iTunes.
I plan on building a server to manage everything soon.

haha, good question. actually, our couch is pretty big. big enough so that both of us can lie down (she lies down on the chaise portion of it). it takes up so much of our small apartment here, but we purchased it while living in the states and i love it too much to get rid of it.

I have a MBP, iPhone and iPod touch. Also I have a semi working 3rd (I think) gen classic, and my parents have an iMac.
I've got 2 drives in my mbp (work and personal) and if I had enough money/was a permanent employee I'd have 2 MBPs for this purpose.
iPhone is obviously my phone.
iPod touch I've had for years (long before iPhone) and is now becoming slightly redundant. I had it in the car as my cassette adapter made those horrible data sounds when plugged into my phone, but I just wrote off my car and I'm putting a raspberry pi with airplay in the new one, so the ipod will probably not be used anymore, or maybe for long journeys (battery) or situations when the device might get damaged (running when it's raining)
Finally the iPod was a hand me down/scavenge, not used as the battery isn't up to much. Might get round to doing something cool (but useless) with it someday like putting it into some obscure room/appliance in the house 😛
On the multiple macs front, I in the future can see myself having 2 MBPs, work and personal. Also for people whose work is maybe more integrated into their personal life (e.g. photographer) I can see why they might have an iMac/pro for power and an air or mbp for portability 🙂

I have a macbook pro and an iphone. That's all I really need and they sync up well and are easy to manage.

I own;
2010 MBP - used as my "desktop" since I long gave up using desktops. Have my external Bluray burner and 3TB backup drive connected to it. Now that I have a work laptop, rarely take my MBP out anymoe
iPad 3 - This is my "main" device for the most part. I'll take this while traveling or when I don't need the bulk, or power, of the MBP. Plus it has all my games on it 😛
ATV 2 - simply got this cuz i had about $50 of Bestbuy rewardzone coupons to kill. Works nicely that I can connect my MBP/iPad to view content on my TV now. This device isn't really a must have for me but it does mesh nicely along with my other Apple products.
2 iPods - One 160GB Classic for toting around all my music when traveling or out and about. 16GB Nano (6th gen) only to be used while at the gym. Haven't been to the gym in over 2 years so mine is still brand new 😀

Mac mini with a 18tb thunderbolt raid 6 for my iTunes,home control system, and time machine backups.
The family has a couple of iMacs and a couple of MacBook pros and a ipad for there use.
Everyone has an iPhone.
One AppleTV for the family room tv.
It all works together very nicely with a minimum of fuss.
iPad for on the go design work and some move viewing.
Mac mini with a 18tb thunderbolt raid 6 for my iTunes,home control system, and time machine backups.
The family has a couple of iMacs and a couple of MacBook pros and a ipad for there use.
Everyone has an iPhone.
One AppleTV for the family room tv.

Except the powertbook, i currently use all of them. I am actually debating to get the macbook air and not use my iPad in my rotation of gadgets.

sync to Mac
I have an iMac and iPhone right now, I've been using sync to Mac. I'm buying an iPad Air.
I was syncing the iPhone to the iMac because iTunes was not letting me redownload old content back onto my Mac until Mavericks/latest iTunes update.
Now that I can download all content to every device, not sure if I will continue to sync to the Mac beyond adding burned movies or music.
I use Time Machine for back ups on the iMac.

Well since posting this a couple years ago I have acquired said iPod touch and AppleTV, as well as a Macbook Air and fourth gen iPod shuffle. And I will probably be getting an iPhone before the end of 2013.
