Question about AppleCare.
What is the difference between buying AppleCare the first day of the purchase compared to buying it a day before the 1 year warranty expires? Is there any risk in doing the latter?

Did you read the first bullet point in my post? It's true no matter where you buy it.

No difference whatsoever. Buy it from their online store for education and the price drops by a good $70.
