iPod first generation (Mac only version)

I was wondering if it is possible to somehow modify an a mac compatible iPod 5gb first generation and make it work on a pc?

If I recall correctly all you have to do is plug in to your PC and then it should ask you to restore it.

So then this is just a software issue? Meaning that all I have to do is restore it and update the software so it works with a PC?
