Hi.

I am looking to stream audio using airplay mirroring in the classrooms of an English language academy. This will allow teachers to play audio listening files using iPads instead of hunching over computers.

I realise there are two solutions, airport express and Apple tv. I am interested in the latter because I am also going to order video projectors next month.

Is it possible to use apple tv without a tv? This sounds like a really strange request however for now I would like to use the optical out only.

Thanks in advance.

Well my thinking was that airplay mirroring would do that from the ipad end.

you could use the apple tv with anything that has an hdmi input.
you can also get airplay speakers if you only need to stream audio...

i have both and use my apple tv (its connected to a tv though) with airplay mirroring to get my mac desktop on my tv like a second screen

i use my airplay speakers to listen to podcasts and itunes - its awesome :)
