Mac OS X Update Combined installer hangs at less than a minute remaining

I have:
Macbook Pro (A1226)
Mac OS X Lion.

I have just wiped the HDD, installed Lion on it and downloaded and ran Mac OS X Update Combined. It hang at writing files for ages (~ 30 mins) then suddenly changed to "Finishing the installation... Install time remaining: Less than a minute." It has just hung there for about 45 minutes now and counting. I have just clicked on System Preferences to make it not sleep automatically and let it run overnight but it is now frozen. Any advice?
