Would YOU make a better president if elected?

If you had a chance to run for president and won would you be a better president than the choices we have now. Would you not play party politics or cave to interests groups but instead put the needs of the country ahead of towing the party line.

Surely there are people out there who would do a better job than those who have tried. Would these people ever get a chance if they don't have money or friends in high places. Will we ever find a president for the people not the corporations.

I'd make a terrible president.

I'd dismantle the military ... give waaay too much to the poor, infirm and elderly ... and probably end up assassinated by one of my own body guards for being too damn liberal.

Why bother?

I would NEVER become president. I'll stick to lights and sound engineering that I'm currently learning about...

Maybe the second shooter was not on the grassy knoll, but on the back bumper?

Someone without experience with compromising and making deals with politicians would be a horrible president. Even if the President has the best interests in mind, you have to get hundreds of congressmen to share your views on what those best interests are.

I don't think the average person would make a good President myself included. It's pretty naive to think that any President could be effective without "playing party politics" or compromising. The best Presidents do both but convince the public that they've done neither.

Screw being the president. I would make an excellent dictator and rule America with an iron fist. America will be in 0% debt less than 6 months time.

Gimme something I could work with, like a cooperative Supreme Court or Congress, and I'd go all Teddy Roosevelt. I'd have the DOJ break up the banks and the media companies.

Whether that'd make me a better president depends on where you stand.

I wouldn't make a better president but a kinder and more compassionate one. I would push every civil right's clause until the last conservative chokes on their bigotry, I would push federal spending in focusing on infrastructure, education and civil services and of course I would legalize and regulate drugs, prostitution and abortion - not in that order!

I'd start by supporting a Constitutional amendment that would limit the federal tax code to 5000 words (not the current 7000 pages), require it to be comprehensible to somebody with a high school education, base the tax rate as an escalating percentage of all income and assets as wealth increases, and abolish all exemptions and deductions every ten years. Of course in the intervening decade, voters and lobbyists would pressure Congress to pass various deductions and exemptions, but at least they would be flushed from the system periodically.

The problem with the current tax code is that it is so complex that it reads like it was written by a Martian. Only the rich can afford an army of lawyers and accountants to exploit its complexity. We need to change that.

So .... I guess you won't be seeing me as President anytime soon.

Not even a little. I don't do well making decisions that can adversely affect millions upon millions of peoples' lives. I do it on a day to day basis on a much, much smaller scale and sometimes the decisions aren't easy. I would likely make for a horrible President even though I do own a pants suit.

Probably not.

I believe the FCC's Truth in Advertising rules should extend to political campaigns - and be strictly enforced.

I believe VulchR is exactly right on the tax code.

Want to create jobs? Pass an actual budget, figure out what we are going to do with taxes for the next 2-4 years, and let the public know that's that. Corporations are hoarding cash and not hiring because they don't know what next year will bring.

Want to take care of Cuba once and for all? Lift the embargoes. All of them. And watch what happens.

I believe abortion and marijuana are States' Rights issues.

I believe we need to incentivize and reward government departments for finding ways to save money.

The government is way too "top down" and not enough "bottom up". Unfunded mandates are killing local and state governments. Look up the Federal Highway Administration's requirements for new street signs. Then realize that the local town has to pay for the signs, the labor to put them up, the labor to mark the utilities for every sign post being put in the ground...

I could keep going...

I'd be an awful president.

But if elected, I would move to end daylight savings time. Seasons change, days grow longer and get shorter throughout the year. Deal with it.

I'd not make a good President. I have only ever been good at stuff that I liked doing, and have a pronounced tendency to phone it in otherwise. Phoning it in is not the same as delegating tasks properly.

If I like a particular type of task or some idea for a project, I'll work 24/7 on it until it's done or I drop. Or, I had and still have amazing stamina when called upon to meet some challenge or crisis situation. But showing up every day at 9am no matter what's on the agenda, not so much.

If I'm not fascinated, it's hard to get through to me at all. I may show up, but I will bring my "sure, no problem" attitude, which actually means big problems down the road if you put me in charge of the thing. I have a feeling that Bush 43 was sorta like that and we all know how that worked out for the country.

Any more I stick to quiltmaking, and one may hope Mr. Bush is sticking to making watercolor paintings of his dogs and the Texas outback.

I would easily make a better president. Most people could (jk).

But in all seriousness, I would nearly reset the status quo so that nobody had an excuse to be poor or in bad shape except for the fact that they made bad choices, then focus on the people who decided to make the right choices.

I am also going to put a lot more focus in education, mainly economics, math, and politics so that people have a much better understanding of the issues when they choose their president. I know a lot of people who are voting for obama just because he is black, and have no clue what either candidate talks about.
