Mbp 2012 1.35v ram

I have a question about the latest MBP (non-retina) 13" RAM. I've seen many people discussing 1.35V vs. 1.5V. I'm interested in the possible CL ratings of the 1.35V sticks. I contacted OWC and they only carry CL 11 1.35V RAM. Has anyone found any CL10 1.35V sticks? I've only seen the CL10 1.5V sticks at best for the DDR3 1600 PC3-12800 with 204-pins.

The only CL9 I've found on Newegg is a 1.5V stick (Kingston HyperX 16GB pair) at an obscene 144.99.

I may just end up going with a 1.35V CL at CL 11. Anyone find 1.35V at CL10?

I found a Mushkin set at $65.99 with 1.35V but it is CL 11.

In addition today there is an additional 10% off Newegg RAM purchases.

I bought my Aluminum Late 2008 Macbook in late 2008 right around when everything was switching to DDR3 from DDR2. I remember paying $120-$130 for 2X2GB of RAM to "Max it" for what we knew was the max back then. Since then it's actually increased in potential maximum with newer Mac OS versions.

Things were very buggy and my RAM kit I bought in 2008 and wasn't working even though I bought it from OWC. I tried two kits and both didn't work. It was a huge ordeal with Apple they actually not only replaced my computer because of all the kernel panics with the RAM but they also gave me an "Apple-branded" set in the new computer to match the 4GB. I assume they wanted to research the issue with the RAM kits causing issues.

Lower heat and energy usage at 1.35V. Probably minimal difference in real-world usage though. Much greater reductions in heat are made with using a SSD drive versus a mechanical disk.

The mid-2012 MBP can use either 1.35V or 1.5V. Many people have checked the RAM that came factory installed and it has been seen both ways.

Apparently some people have had success with 1.35V in previous Macbooks though I wouldn't recommend it.

I really don't think 0.15v is going to effect anything noticeably.

2012 MBPs are supposed to come with 1.35V RAM.

1.35V RAM is supposed to be compatible at 1.35V or 1.5V without any detrimental effects.

Don't forget that while your computer is sleeping, the only thing using power is the RAM so any difference in RAM power usage there can significantly affect the amount of time your computer can spend sleeping.

I switched out my RAM today and what came installed from the factory is Micron RAM (MT8JTF25664HZ-1G6M1) 2GB chips. It is 1.5V RAM CL11.

Right now I'm testing the new Mushkin RAM so far so good (1.35V and CL 11). I noticed a bump from 384MB to 512MB on the VRAM in system profiler. I'm running Rember, followed by Techtool Pro 6, and will run the Apple Hardware test later on.

That's interesting. I wonder why they would use 1.5V RAM when it's supposed to be the same price as 1.35V modules. Did you go from 4GB to 8GB to get the bump in VRAM usage? I'm gonna see if CPU-Z can identify which RAM this rMBP is using.

It does, from 4gb to 8gb my VRAM doubled from 256mb to 512mb.

My stock RAM was CL 11 1.5V as said previously.

The RAM you listed is for 8GB not 16GB. It isn't listed for sale for 16GB.

Okay, how about Kingston HyperX LoVo - part number KHX16LS9P1K2/16 ?
It is 16GB CL9 1.35v SO-DIMM kit. Probably the best choice.

Sure best choice if you want to spend $140 plus for minimal real-world benefit. Plus it isn't available at Newegg only Kingston. Have you seen anything below $100? If you find it let me know.

I've had an interesting crash with Rember. Rember works fine until the screensaver opens then it crashes. I've posted the crash report. What was shown on the screen was flashing lines along the top with the screensaver on.

I've run Techtool pro for 90 minutes checking the RAM with no errors. I also ran Apple Hardware Test extended and no problems were found.

I turned off the screensaver and Rember ran without any issues and everything passed. Maybe the VRAM was unhappy with Rember stealing all the RAM?

If you put the old RAM back in and run the same test what happens?

I was going to do that at some other point. It runs fine if I disable the screensaver during Rember. If the screensaver is on at other times it is fine. Maybe I'll try that tomorrow though with the original RAM.

Another potential problem is the Apple update that just came out for the machine. I know there were graphics updated with it so maybe something went wrong.

So here's another issue I just had. My wife was web browsing on pinterest and it did the same corrupted screen freeze with flashing and the horizontal lines across the top.

I attached the photo of what it looked like.

It looks like I will be RMAing the RAM. The only other thing I can think of is that it was the graphics update we updated to at the same time. I reseated the new RAM so if it happens again I'll switch out the RAM and submit the RMA. Hopefully they waive the restocking fee since it is defective.

I'll see if it recurs with the original RAM. Like I said, nothing was found on the Apple Hardware Test.

I RMAed the RAM. No restocking fee. I had to chat with customer service to get a free shipping label. Newegg is great as usual.

Rember runs without issues with the original RAM. So I'm back in the market. Any more suggestions for CL 9 or 10 1.35V PC3 12800 1600MHz RAM FOR 16GB?

Today's shell shocker deal though is a 2X8GB 1.5V CL10 G.Skill set that is $49.99 down from $69.99. Plus I have a 10% coupon code. Plus using Ebates gives a 1.5% cash back. With free shipping that comes to $44.32 for 16GB. I think that's too good a deal to pass up. Any tips?
