Confused about iCloud photo backup
An Apple rep on the phone said that iCloud will only back up photos in your Photo Stream from the last 30 days and up to 1000 photos. However, when backing up and restoring my iPhone to iCloud, it backed up and restored my entire Camera Roll, which contained photos older than 30 days. What's the deal? Does iCloud backup the Camera Roll or not?

The "photos in your Photo Stream from the last 30 days and up to 1000 photos" thing is just that, it's those photos in your Photo Stream. Photo Stream =/= Camera Roll. |

So if I turn off backing up to Photo Stream (I don't even understand what Photo Stream is vs. Camera Roll), it says it will delete those photos from my Photo Stream. Will it delete them from my Camera Roll as well?

The camera roll is all the pictures you save, screenshot, take, and film. You can read about Photo Stream here: http://www.apple.com/icloud/features/photo-stream.html Quote:

Photostream, is a syncronizing tool that temporarily (30 days, 1000 images) between iDevices and Mac/PC. iCloud Backup, backs up phone settings, Camera Roll contents, and other stuff.

I turned off Photo Stream because I don't need it.
Can someone please confirm for me that iCloud will backup my entire Camera Roll, however big it is (assuming less than my 5gb iCloud storage) so I can restore it on my new iPhone? Thanks. |

Provided you haven't turned it off in Settings, then yes, it'll back your entire Camera Roll.
